Fell on his feet , moving to a club on the up from one on its way down. Good time for him to be at Barrow , similar to when he started at Pools in the early noughties , will be interesting to see how it pans out for them both. I wonder if he could use his influence to arrange a friendly game, as all the friendlies arranged so far are against teams from leagues below us , not good enough HUFC.

Good luck, Mark.
I'd love to hear your story on how all this came about in the first place.

I am always pleased to see anyone unemployed get a job but to say he has fell on his feet is a bit over the top. Yes Barrow are now a league above Pools but as a club I believe we are bigger. Even in a promotion season they could barely average 2000. Will Mark be on a higher wage we will never know but I doubt it,and then he will either have to move home or travel and ask anyone who works in that area it is a lousy journey Of over 2hrs on a good day.
Of course the Doom Master says they are on the way up and we are on the way down. Whilst I am not optimistic of us going up I don’t see any evidence of us going down.

Barrow are clearly another of the children of the never really been successful clubs along with Pools and them down the road. I'm pleased to see them back in the league and Simmo will enjoy his job over there. From contact I've had with him he likes the 'feel' of it and he's been made very welcome by genuinely nice people. I suspect that they are delighted to have someone of his ability and experience.

Like all of us, he has got bills to pay and in these times, very few can afford to be snobbish about who they work for. Snobbery from supporters of a club thats right on its arse is laughable.

He'll do well, will our Simmo.
I haven't spoke to Russ Green for ages. Any idea how/what he's doing these days.
Is he still at Donny Belles??

No idea what he's up to these days Frank. I know he went through a tough few years and I didn't even know he was at Doncaster. Hartlepool, Rochdale, Doncaster; he's only in it for the glamour.

Doom Master  You mean the person who predicted 10 years ago we would end up in non league and ....

It that is how you see it, I can only conclude you must be partially sighted

To be honest you didn’t have to be a brain surgeon to know that Pools would one day fall through the trap door into non league. During my 71yrs of supporting Pools we have had more near misses than probably any other team. I still remember the days when you had to apply for re-election I would be waiting for the Hartlepool Mail coming out and looking in the ‘old stop press’ for the result. I believe (someone will keep me right) that we hold the record for number of applications. Since then we have had many near misses with, Knowles, Turner and Moore amongst our saviours. Even when we were in Div 2 we knew one day we would drop to our true level. The sad part for me is that at my age I’m not optimistic of me seeing us regaining league status.
So Horden any Pools supporter being honest could of told you 10yrs ago that this would probably happen one day.

To be fair we used to expect it more or less every season since the beginning of the sixties.
I think we were re elected over ten times and probably nearer fifteen. We had a few decent seasons but not that many.
At least now we have the opportunity to get back on merit and don't have to go through re election.
I too have the feeling I might never see another football league match at the Vic but I live in hope.

join the club derwent. i am trying to be realistic about pools chances as well. the best thing to hope for is pools having a record of being the longest serving members of the national league. back in the re election days some clubs played in the hope of promotion. pools season was one of avoiding re election.

Enjoyed the game. Credit to Barrow's management - they organised their team well and the players stuck to the system and never gave up.

In the case of Notts Co and Wrexham , yes. During the dark times though, still nice to have those memories of better times, whereas as our memories are two 6th place finishes in league 1 banghead
