Another one bites the dust. Before my time, but by all accounts a very capable player.

Div 4 top scorer whilst playing for Pools in 66/67 with 23 goals.

RIP

Endorsed Hartleblue. My first Pools hero along with Les Green. Great player and to get 23 goals in one season back then took some doing. As Hartleblue said he formed a great partnership with Jim Mulvaney. Thank you "ERNIE, ERNIE." RIP Ernie Phythian.

I would imagine he is our only player to have topped the divisional goalscoring charts, which tells you something about our history

real good player Ernie. RIP.
and Jimmy Mulvaney.

remember one game when the teams came on to the pitch before KO.
and Mulvaney had his head bandaged up.
he,d been involved in a car crash on the way to the game.
didn,t stop him playing though.

those where the days. in the early 60,s the watford keeper dave underwood who i knew well had somehow managed to put his hand through a plate glass window in grimby on the friday night. he managed to play basically one handed the next day. now he,d be out for at least a season having to go to a lesser club to recover his match fitness.

Another demonstration of some of the unseen things that Mark Simmo took care of. This wouldn't have got past him.

A few months ago I was looking up footballer’s who has made an impression on me and the first one I looked for was John Rowlands who played for Pools in the mid-70’s. Sadly I discovered he died of Covid in April. I discovered this on Stockport County’s website https://www.stockportcounty.com/rest-in-peace-john-rowlands/

I stand to be corrected but I saw nothing about it on Pools site?

You are correct. I saw it on Barrows site in April, he played for them even before Stockport , around about same time as Pythian played for Pools. There was another former pools player died this summer as well, his name escapes me. I mentioned all this to Maguire just before he left , I complained that nothing had been put on the website unlike Barrow and Stockport, I got the usual Covid excuses, I then suggested all these players be given recognitiion with an article in the matchday programme when the season eventually starts. A week later MM was gone, whether he would've followed this up, we will never know, whether he passed on my thoughts to the new CEO we will have to wait and see.

It shouldn’t happen. No matter what difficulties we are in, the club has a duty of respect to those that have represented it in the past. We always managed to do it before, even if as you say it is just a mention in the programme. By not doing it, the club is showing a lack of respect.

There's a simpler explanation but it's equally depressing. Raj basically shut the club down during the lockdown. Does anyone even know if that lad Alex who posted a few videos on the OS got paid anything for his efforts? It's all gone quiet on that front too.

The only sign of life on the non-footballing side is the sale of season tickets. Jesper apologised earlier in the week for 'the administrative problem' that was holding up notification of who had got season tickets in the first release. Still heard nothing and the club have had my bank details for nearly a fortnight. Best check my account to see if anything has gone out!

Resuscitating a club that has basically been in the deep freeze for 4 months was always going to take time but there's still very few signs of life. New staff, who's going to train them, what are they going to be paid? As little as the chairman can get away with probably. Lack of due respect to the passing of former players is among the least of Pools' current problems.

Other clubs are managing to update their websites though. South Shields have had their clubhouse open for the last couple of Saturdays serving drinks. Now the Centenary Lounge isn't for me, but If it was open today, I would go and spend 20 quid to help the club out.

I see we have managed to organise a friendly game, away at Gateshead 26th September.

I think respect for former players is paramount and should be acknowledged, standards , standards , standards.

pools are no different from all the other clubs who have not been involved in play offs. others have managed better though in attempts to kick start their life again.
