Here's how I figure it:

Problems;

Clark is injured, Robson is ineffectual, forward line is ineffectual.

Option one:

Barron on for Clark
Williams for Robson
Porter on

Option Two

Robson can play in defence so drop him back there thus fixing two problems with one substitution. Robson to LB Liddle moves in to replace Clark. Bring on Williams and Porter and leave one card up his sleeve.

It didn't work but its my guess that that was his thinking.

Well I was mystified too when the subs came on and Nick Laughlin explained where they'd been put.

Which brings me to the question. According to the commentary we seemingly had a lot of possesion and a lot of attacks in the first half, then in the second half we went flat and allowed Shrewsbury to run things and would never have scored in a hundred years.

So what would have been the ideal substitution (out of who was on the bench - not out of players at Luton and Port Vale!)?

Barron for Darren Williams then move Williams to the center. Or just put Barron in the center of defence.

I'd have either of those as we're not reorganising as much. Darren Williams has more experience than Liddle and will be able to adapt more quickly. E. Williams is right footed so he's not suited to the left wing.
