How long have you got?? He was the man who invented the spin doctor.

Is not DC an updated version of a spin doctor?
I honestly cant remember any big mess Campbell got into so if you know i would be interested to hear.

He was always being lambasted by the press and the opposition, in other words not a lot has changed. I'm not saying he deserved a lot of the flak he got but the media is the media.
I would say that Cummings is in a similar category but nowhere near as publicly outspoken. Last week was the first time most people had heard him speak. Campbell is a character and is worth listening to whereas Cummings would probably bore the arse off me.
Chalk and Cheese comes to mind.

Yes Mr D i cant remember anything except general flak and i imagine he had an easier job with Blair than DC having Johnson.

More speculation to consider during lockdown

That comment in the article that he was in Barnard Castle on government business makes more sense but why not just say that rather than the eyesight excuse. Unless of course it was all hush hush but then that begs the question why hush hush?? If that comes out to be the real reason for him going there then the media will have another bonanza citing backhanders and brown envelopes as the reason for hush hush.
Mind you it would justify a claim for travel expenses wouldn't it?? I wonder if anyone has checked that.

A friend of mine lives in the centre of Barny made comments just like the speculation in the article on the day the story broke. He is very suspicious of what goes on behind closed doors at the GSK site.
Does the government still hand out D notices?
Will the government close the Bunker down
I am in overdrive now!!!!

Crazy isn't it? Personally I think being with a married lover is worse than breaking the lockdown guidance , but what do I know?

I hadn't heard of her prior to this , so I did a bit of digging , I saw she once got slated for appearing on Russia Today. I have no problem with that, in fact I have a problem with her being slated for it , but noticed she was paid 500 quid for that interview, Why would you charge for an interview , its this what pisses me off , most people don't earn that a week and many have to live off that a month , some less, Who the fook do they think they are? Like the breach of the lockdown guidance though , it was appearing on RT that was the problem not the fact that she is earning 90k a year and charging 500 quid for interviews, I don't recognise this world anymore.

Like I said the other day if everybody examined their actions during lockdown and admitted even the slightest breach and then resigned, parliament would be empty and there wouldn't be any newspapers.
But it's ok to call for the resignation of others.

You mean the same legendary Jack Blackford who won the 21/22 Ballon d'or, was the first £300 million pound player, captained England in the 2022 World Cup and scored the goal for Real Madrid against Manchester City in the Champions League final that same year?

I thought Scotland are nothing without England , as many are prone to say during a referendum , then surrely its best for the other 3 countries if we let them have their independence. Of course someone could be telling porkies.

She stepped down from a perk of her job, she didn't resign from her actual job, like what people want to happen to Cummings.

Yes Mr Acc. i remember a woman on the local radio who had a go at Tanni Grey Thompson for asking a tidy sum of cash to open a building that provided services to children with the same disability as the now Baroness.
She was not a happy lady and managed to get the story out before she was abruptly cut off.
I look at these people in a different light now.

Thanks to Derwent and Mr I for wading through my post and for your associated comments.

Let's have a final 'butchers' at how this totally unnecessary saga unfurled, shall we?

i) Cummings is caught with his grubby mitts in the sweetie jar and is deemed to be a very naughty boy indeed, deserveth of a smacked bottom.

ii) The Invisible Man morphs into Johnson and makes a very rare appearance to deliver a statement in between his customary spluttering and gesturing. It is designed to exonerate his guv'nor from an acutely awkward situation but his obfuscations are wholly unconvincing and lacking in detail. He fails miserably in his quest and falls at the first hurdle.

iii) Naughty Boy, wearing the colours of Squeaky Clean Man, is sent in to bat and he constructs a lenghty innings, playing largely off the back foot. He is eventually caught out whilst attempting to hook a short delivery, claimimg that the sun was in his eyes. As he trudges back to the pavilion, he is accompanied by fits of laughter from the large crowd assembled inside the ground as they stare up into the dark, gloomy sky.

iv) The pair don tin helmets and slink off to seek refuge inside the bunker where they hunker down, praying that the foreboding clouds will soon pass and they will be able to carry on as before (exactly as I anticipated).

v) The umpires are summoned before the committee and instructed to place an emergency order for a large supply of Y-fronts and knickers which had been soiled as a direct result of Naughty Boy's comment regarding the sun.

vi) The umpires are hauled back yet again, this time to procure a gargantuan amount of undies for a large percentage of the population who are, by now, kacking themselves stupid as a direct result of witnessing a rudderless Government who have lost the plot and are in turmoil. Dare I add, and who also lost several extremely valuable days embroiled in farcical shenanigans entirely of their own making. The public are being asked to do one thing, then another or was it the other and are bombarded with mixed and misleading messages almost on a daily basis and are in serious danger of chucking in the towel. These are tragic times indeed and we can ill afford any further hot air.

You may not believe this but I am not really a political animal at all; just your average Joe on the street who has a wide range of interests. This sorry state of affairs is down to just two people who, in this instance, happen to be Cummings and Johnson. It could have been any other pair which is why I introduced Mr Seymour and Mrs Snatch but the circumstances remain constant whereas Mr S and Mrs S would, hopefully, have behaved differently. Strangely, in a weird sort of way, when I am watching Johnson, I sometimes feel a wee bit sorry for him because he seems to be totally incapable of avoiding making himself look a tit.

Looking on as a relative neutral, my point, which I have, admittedly, laboured, has not wavered and is that we desperately need authoriative leadership which gives us the confidence to follow and believe in and I just do not see any real evidence of this currently. The situation is hardly helped by having a lightweight Cabinet who must surely rank as onr of the weakest in history. Educated at Johnson Academy, they are well-versed in the art of waffle and splutter but seem incapable of putting forward anything tangible and certainly cannot get their excuses straight.

There is nervousness over the vulnerability of 'R' again, even before Johnson announced a relaxation of the social distancing rule, a statement which even put a startled expression on the face of one of the experts who was clearly caught unawares. Further evidence of cracks appearing among the supporting cast came when another expert found it necessary to state that decisions were being made on a political, rather than a scientific, basis. Nothing to do with me guv. I just cannot see the gloom hanging over the country lifting any day soon.

As the old saying goes, "Opinions are like arseholes - we all have one" so, as we are all best mates on here, I'll have a pint, please!

Having spoken to the Test and County Cricket Board about the match which is eloquently reported on by the well known roving reporter, Mr Hucker, I received the following comments.
On the day the batsman went for his eye test to determine whether his batting was terminated by the rays of the sun, not one umpire (the police) recorded any wrongdoings by the said batsman. In fact the test was carried out unbeknown to any umpire or even any member of the aforesaid TCCB. The only witness to the event was an unnamed member of the public who happened upon the batsman as he was carrying out his test. This unnamed member immediately reported witnessing the test but instead of reporting it to the umpires or even the TCCB he reported it to a couple of anti cricket newspapers, who sat on it for weeks whilst they deliberated. When the cricketing authorities(the police) eventually decided to investigate the proceedings some two months later they concluded that any possible breaking of the rules was of a minor nature and drew a line under the matter.
There ensued a hue and cry by rivals of the batsman's club which only served to prove that these rival club's batsmen also broke the rules and to top it all the employees of the anti cricket newspapers were knocked from their holier than thou perch as footage of their antics was produced proving that they had illegally trampled the wicket outside the accused batsman's dressing room.
Now I need a pint so I'll join our roving reporter.

Questions being asked as to the "cottage" DC stayed in had planning permission and if council tax is paid?
Apparently being looked into according to a BBC report based on a Northern Echo report.

If Cummings senior is ordered to dismantle the "cottage" over this, as seems to be the norm, I would strongly advise Naughty Boy to get his grubby mitts on a copy of the A to D and slip it down his pants as daddy will be sorely displeased.

The mark of a true Socialist is whether they accept them or not. Nothing would surprise me these days , it seems almost everyone can be bought off . of course the vital ingredient in a capitalist utopia. True Socialists generally don't get offered them in the first place.

Just flicking through the tv channels and came across the Hartlepool MP on the parliament channel 232 having a zoom meeting with George Osborne , Phillip Hammond and LORD DARLING OF ROULANISH . It seems Bliars mob got more knighthoods than the opposition , see that's the rewards you get in British life for playing the game and tugging the forelock. I'm sure George and Phil will get one eventually though , just making them wait a bit because they fucked up the country.

Seems that the guy holding the bbq is the Spectator Magazine's deputy editor. Mary Wakefield, DC's wife, is the commisioning editor for the same rag.

Asked for comment about his attendance at the gathering and to explain the purpose of his visit to the Isle of Wight, Tice said: “I have followed the prime minister’s advice to wash my hands, stay alert, maintain social distancing and test my eyesight when appropriate.”

Oakeshott said: “I work on the Isle of Wight all year round. It is where I go to write. I have stayed alert, washed my hands regularly and, as always, enjoyed my time on this paradise isle. Now and again I’ve also tested my eyesight, which seems to be in good order. Along with the rest of the nation, I am delighted at the recent decriminalisation of barbecues.”

Oh dear.

Just to please Horden, I’m hearing life peerages for Frank Fields and the beast. Boris nominations incidentally.

The mark of a true Socialist is whether they accept them or not. Nothing would surprise me these days , it seems almost everyone can be bought off . of course the vital ingredient in a capitalist utopia. True Socialists generally don't get offered them in the first place.

Tony Blair didn't accept one. Does that make him a true socialist???

He probably asked for the money instead  Still time for Bliar. We all know he is a crafty bounder , in his pursuit of being liked , he didnt/doesnt fool me , but he has fooled plenty of others.

He has accepted plenty of other honours in his time , quite often from the Yanks , things associated with Liberty and Freedom , which makes you want to cry really.

Careful now, I don't think this thread is very civil as it criticises our great and holy supreme leader.
