Raynes, Kerr and Anderson gone, so must be confident of getting Liddle/Odusina back?

Not surprised Toure wanted away with his history with DC

The Raynes/Kerr partnership put the fear of god in to me every game I saw them play.

They just never clicked together in my opinion, I think either with a different partner may have worked, but together they seemed to take it in turns to make a mistake.

Such a same Niko Muir never worked out, nice guy and classy in his response to being let go. Toure wants to play higher, doesn't everybody! He's too inconsistent but will get another club quite easily I'd imagine.

No surprises for me, apart form Luke Williams being invited back for training, every manager sees his quality and it would be just our luck he went somewhere else and put 25 games in next season. But surely we've tried long enough with him, even I think that!

Great news that James has been offered a new contract. Kitching too who i dont rate but the club sees something in him.

I think the best Luke Williams can expect is a pay as you play contract.

Gime provided a lot if assists as well as his goals. I think he will be difficult to replace. Bit risky in the current climate to walk away I would have thought.

Looking forward to seeing Luke Williams sticking it to the doubters. I hope my eyesight holds up for another forty years.

No problem with that , other than would have kept Anderson , but for some reason always seemed on the periphery at Pools. Thought Luke Williams had used up all of his 9 lives. Would look to sign Shelton and MSH out of loan signings , and no problem with keeping Hawkes, Richardson, Cunningham and Grey. Hawkes really needed to kick on last season , as far as I'm concerned he hadn't up until the season was suspended. Grey needs to be thrown straight in nest season IMO.

Hawkes is lightweight and more concerned with getting his hair messed up.

Anderson was too slow.

Richardson is a deer in headlights

This is Luke Williams year, Challinor is a physio and more understands the issue I feel.

Luke James banghead

I think this is just about what most supporters expected Yes there will be the odd difference of opinion that’s football. As far as Williams is concerned do you vote with your heart or your head.

Is it just me that thinks Anderson is an awful footballer. Yes he tried but he has zero quality. Just because he got some teeth knocked out people seem to love him!

Hard to disagree with really, both the retained list & the comments.
Toure added something we’ve not had at Pools for years, excitement, a skilled player with his eye for goal on his day, but as frustrating as hell on an off day. Given his history with DC I expected he’d go, shame we cannot command a free. I think his agents turned his head with the idea of playing higher, weren’t Luton reported to be sniffing after him at one point?

As for Williams we have put two years rehab into him & still not fit, that’s a lot of time & effort, fair enough we invite him back for pre season but in all honesty does anyone really expect to pull a Pools shirt on again? Who ever said he will get fit then bang 25 goals in for somebody?, I could see it maybes for someone like Stockton Town in the Northern League.

Hopefully sorting out the retained list will allow us to sign both Shelton & Liddle permanently, hopefully we get Odisini & Southam Hales back on season king loans? I’d expect Luke James re-signs & Kitching, personally if he doesn’t that wouldn’t be a big issue there will be a decent left back somewhere ?

DC has already said it’ll be a smaller squad, we have the spine of a decent side that we can supplement with loans, free agents etc.

One area that needs a look bar that elusive 30 goal a year striker is competition in goal ,Killip needs someone to push him or provide completion? Spennymoor have just released Matt Gould, I’ve seen him quite a lot over the past two years, decent stopper, could even be our number 1 to be honest.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the obvious cuts we are going to have to make, DC is going to have to say he is building a side to make the playoffs, when really winning the league is the goal.

Hopefully the offer to Williams is just a gesture and it goes no further. Would never play a full season.

Can't say I was expecting any new contracts to be offered until there is a clearer view on when the season will start. All the clubs above us will be reducing squad sizes and there will be lots of players without clubs. I assume that any players offered new contracts will have to be paid in full as the furlough scheme may not apply to them.

it certainly going to be a buyers market for next season. would love to know how much pools have actually got to spend in the market. not seeing kerr again is the best news i have heard since lockdown.

[quote="phil"]Hard to disagree with any of that. I think Toure will be a miss, he's the first player we've had in a while I believe will score consistently, but sometimes he was a hindrance.

he is an exciting player but we may have not seen the last of him. he certainly could have picked a better time to look to playing in a higher league. clubs will certainly be cutting down on their squads and with all the other players that will be available i doubt div.1 or 2 clubs will be in a big rush to sign a non league player. can see him at the end of the day signing for someone like halifax or chesterfield with his tail between his legs.

Pretty happy with that, shame about Toure but probably fighting a losing battle on that one.

Not unhappy to see Kerr go, surprising though given as we paid a fee for him fairly recently.

Fingers crossed we get Shelton permanently although noticed he was sharing a video of his best bits on twitter like Toure was a while back so I presume nothing is agreed there yet.

Would think Liddle was a certainty to sign presuming he out on contract?

James and Kitching produced their best stuff under Challinor so no surprise to see them offered new deals, hope both sign them.

Good to see Cunningham offered terms, got impression he was falling out of favour with Challinor but he has always looked decent and wont command a big wage. Imagine he exactly the sort of player we will need to compliment the squad if its smaller this year.

Regarding Killip, pretty sure Challinor said he expects Brad Young to be fighting him for the number 1 shirt this season so doubt there any plans to bring another in. Fine by me and if we play Young then his price tag will only go up.

Williams being offered to carry on training with us was always going to happen, the manager would be a fool to scatter him when he wont be costing anything. Challinor already hinted part of this could be in his head now and with his physio background then he is in a good spot to judge. Who knows this break could be the best thing to have happened to Williams, mind off football and maybe his body has had a chance to do whatever it needs in the downtime. We ask him to train pre season, see how he goes and then Challinor can make a call as to whether to offer him a pay as you play deal. No one else will be taking a chance on him in the meantime so nothing to lose.

Good stuff Dave.

Yes well said Tree agree with you all the way.
I think Cunningham has something and maybe next season we may see it.

Our best run of results over recent seasons was when he was in the side. not saying it was because of him, but worth noting.

Exciting but not consistent , and its consistency you need at this level. Pleased he has been scattered , thick as mince , destined to play for dozens of more non league clubs during his career.

Don't see the point in getting rid of Toure then replacing him with Rodney, like for like IMO. Both will always get goals in spurts , but not consistently and apart from scoring goals both don't offer much else in terms of team effort. In a good team you could possibly carry them , both will get goals wherever they are at this level , but not what we need right now , we need a workhorse up front who will also weigh in with a few goals, a Lormor , Paynter , Barker type player.

Those 12 in 19 were scored over two periods though. I think Halifax suits him. Other than those two periods on loan at Halifax , there is nothing in his record to suggest he can consistently get goals , even at this level, If he had scored 20 goals in a season for Halifax , then maybe , but there are better out there, even in the NL, Quigley and Rooney of Barrow and Paul McCallum for example ,signing Rodney would be a big mistake.

totally agree. he suits halifax and thats about it. had a spell at stocport also last season and didn,t get a regular start. they seemed to see him more of a winger than anything else due to the bit of pace he had.

How do you suit Halifax?!

I'd probably not go for Rodney, depends what else is available I guess. He has scored some goals at this level, consistent goalscorers tend not to stay down here.

Apparently Pools are in negotiations with an experienced striker currently playing in league 2 with North East connections.

Have Luke james and Kitching signed?
What about the other 4 under 24 year olds?

Good but if i was a pro any deal at the moment i would take. Just wait for the higher leagues to start jettisoning players who they just cant afford.
I can see extra clubs being promoted from our league next year simply because clubs in league 1+2 have gone bust.

There's an interview with Scott Fenwick in today's Mail saying exactly the same thing. He turned down a contract offer that was on the table during Hignett's first spell in charge because he thought he was worth more, and has been kicking himself ever since from the sound of things.
