But I fell asleep for a couple of hours

Shame on me

It’s good to see Boris Johnson couldn’t even be boshed to do a live broadcast

I'm going to send a PM about this thread saying how it abuses dear leader Boris and how it isn't civil.

As ever, the government announce a policy which disproportionately puts the risk on to the Working Class, and in particular those in the least secure employment.
We can go back to work so long as we go by car? Fine. If you can afford to run a car.
And if you can't, and you need public transport, and the bus is full because it can only carry a third of it's normal capacity due to the need for social distancing, what then?
Well, if you're on zero hours someone else gets your work.
If you're on a permanent contract but aren't turning in you won't last long.
And if you ARE in a union, and if you're on zero hours contract and work via an agency you probably wont be, your rep is probably snowed under and working from home overrun by complaints just like yours.
If you're not, well that's it. You're unemployed.
But at least you'll be keeping the R below 1.
So long, that is, as you stay alert.
That bus?
The one you couldn't catch?
The government just threw you under it.

England cannot be classed as all the same with the peaks of infection in various locations occurring at different times. Wales and Scotland know that and are doing their own thing. Hartlepool Council have issued a statement saying the level of infections in Hartlepool have not yet reached the peak whereas nationally they are on a downward trajectory. Therefore the government announcement yesterday is not valid for this town and many others.

its so obvious and always has to me that areas of the country will always vary. whats relevent say in warwickshie might not be for cleveland. think most of those working from home might actually include many who travel long didtances for work anyway.

This has just given the green light for bosses to put pressure on people to turn up for work. There's not just the (huge) issue of transport, there's the fact that the schools are still closed, nurseries and childminders are closed and grandparents are social distancing.

With regard to the schools, there is going to have to be some serious improvement in the status of the pandemic before this should be done. Getting kids to social distance? Forget it. Not just from each other but from the staff who care for them. Boris talks about worker's safety, the right for them to expect social distancing or PPE where this is not possible but not so for teachers.

The economy has to start up again and soon but it has to be done right.

If, according to Sturgeon the R value in Scotland is hovering around 1, then what does the government mean when they say its between 0.5 and 0.9. Is this just a guess, an average or what. Is the 0.5 the lowest that’s ever been calculated and 0.9 the highest that’s been calculated. The way i see it is that Scotland is very close to spreading the virus by more than 1 to 1.

If the R value across any country is between 0.5 and 0.9 then parts of the country, individual regions or cities, will undoubtedly be above 1. Within such areas there will be hot clusters well above 1. So I really don't see the wisdom in allowing people to travel any distance to exercise. That surely will just lead to greater cross community infection?

The economy is important too and there are lives at stake for every bit of damage that it incurs in numerous aspects. The measures the government announced relied upon certain statistics lining up. I hope that they have set their bar high enough in order to trigger these easing measures.

Agree ref the economy , it cant lay idle for ever. I just think there should've been 3 weeks of more of the same, in fact the lockdown tightened up significantly for those last 3 weeks, as last couple of weeks , it seems to have loosened up somewhat. By time the lockdown is officially lifted , people won't know what the hell he ( Johnson ) is talking about

All seemed pretty clear and sensible to me at tonight’s briefing.

What you're not seeing is the sly and subtle manipulation of government guidelines that differ substantially from what Johnson orates on TV. suddenly the vulnerable category is divided into a very small 'extremely vulnerable' category and a much larger 'vulnerable' category. The vulnerable category can apparently be expected to to do pretty much everything anyone else can do.

Look at the guidelines for school staff. They are an absolute joke. Staff apparently don't need PPE (not even a mask, which is forbidden) even if they can't socially distance at work. Even if they have vulnerable people in their own homes. Either social distancing is important for everyone..... or it is important for no-one.

It was clear. It just bears no resemblance to the detailed (and yet still deliberately very vague in vital areas) intructions that are quietly squirreled out to various departments. Apologies to the left handed out there but this is all very sinister.

Looks like the rural communities are up in arms at the thought of the great unwashed flocking to their areas.
Cant say i blame them.
It should have had a restriction on it say 15/20/25 miles. But of course that would not suit the London and our London centric governments we have always had of any persuasion.
Great Britain is not just London.

What happened to the global fatalities chart last night, did they just forget about them or are we quickly approaching the US figures now that we are way ahead of Europe?
More smoke, mirrors and lies. Embarrassing!!!!
