News today that late Pool's forward Allan Gauden has died aged 75. Older Bunkerites will remember Allan who played for Sunderland, Darlo and Pools in the NE among other clubs. He played for Pools having signed in August 1973 and scored 20 times in 77 games. Also, The N Echo reported that former Pools player John Rowlands has passed away. John netted 11 times in 54 games. RIP Allan and John. sadx

Remember disliking Gauden when he played for Dario, but welcomed him like a long lost son when he signed for Pools. We are hypocrites.

Both very good players, John Rowlands was immense at corners, great header of the ball, akin to the late great Billy Ayre. RIP.

RIP

Gauden was quality for us, bit of a hard nut in a very physical Pools side that may have made a serious promotion push in 74.75 if Ashurst hadn't left , and then taken Gauden with him to Gillingham. Rowlands was a centre half who was good in the air in mid 70s . Played in NASL during the summer months.

Allan Gauden was a great attacking midfielder just behind McMahon and Moore often ghosting into the box and finished off well. I remember his debut v Brentford and he scored the winner sadly missed the macth as at cricket but Arthur Pickering take on a country dance with his Mail headline 'Gay Gauden grabs glory' summed up new optimism at the Vic.

As for John Rowlands arrived mid season as me missed aerial presence and converted to a central defender and was magnificent never lost a ball in the air and he and Kevin McMahon were a handful on the end of those top drawer curling corners from Jimmy Shoulder. This was a good side that went on that remarkable league Cup run with a brilliant 3rd replay win 1-0 against Bournemouth and 2 strong performances against Blackburn and Villa.

RIP to both Allan Gauden and John Rowlands. They were both boy heroes for me and a fair few rink enders of the day!

I remember Alan Gauden. He was an utter thug for Darlo but a strong Assertive player for us.

RIP Mr Gaudin and thanks for the memories.

Allan Gauden was Sunderlands first ever substitute in 1965.

John Rowlands once got sent off in the NASL for punching Frank Worthington

sad day as they were both players i liked. at least older fans have memories of these two unlike a lot of other pools players who came and gone without a single memory of them.

Gauden played for Darlo before us , so to all intents and purposes you think with him been younger he would've been a better player. I have noticed quite a few times over the years ( despite both clubs being basically shit ) how Darlo beat us to players we would later sign years later Gauden , Hedley , Honour , Burleigh , Gabbiadini , Aspin , Tait and many others. There will no doubt be cases of this happening in reverse , but from what I can see they held the upper hand, though I as stated earlier , it had little impact on the overall success of both clubs, apart from the bastards winning a couple of titles with Tait in their side.
