There was an article in El Pais just this morning on that subject (in Spain obviously).
They kindly provide an English version of their rag on their website.

https://english.elpais.com/economy_and_ ... kdown.html

As for me I'd have to say no noticeable change.

I hardly used to drink in the house until lockdown, maybe 1 or 2 bottles or beer or double whiskies a week.

It's started creeping up a bit now like.

I'm guessing you shouldn't drink too much as it may leave you more susceptible to catching the virus?

I'm personally having a 'hot toddy' most nights with ample rum, brandy or whisky present.

Well, Mr Accrington, unlike other governments, the UK's has said nothing so far about phasing out the quarantine. I understand that planning ahead isn't really their thing, but if ever they do get round to it you can be sure that throwing the pub doors open isn't No. 1 on their list.
On second thoughts they'll probably dig out their "Government for Dummies" book to remember how exactly they worded "The pubs are open but please don't go out drinking" the first time.

He'll feel pretty much like my bar owner friend who spend 5 years getting his bar up and running and finally saved enough money to take his family to their native Chile in January/February, knowing that the culmination of the domestic and European football seasons and the Semana Santa would bring in people to get the cash flowing again.

Which they would have done if only they'd existed. There will be literally hundreds of bars here hanging on by their fingertips.
If they're not open by July they're Donald Ducked.

What £750k must be some place in a posh area. You can buy pubs up here for next to nothing.

What for a busy freehold pub in rural Sussex.? Posh comes at twice the price.

I can't see many tourist's having the confidence or money to go to Spain or any other of our favourite destinations this year. The Balearic's and a good few resorts on the mainland only trade up to October anyway .must be a big worry.

Less, a lot less, though got a delivery of 12 bottles supposedly coming tomorrow. The things you take for granted , what I would do for a pub crawl around York at the moment

I'm starting drinking earlier yet drinking half as much. Turns out I'm not one for drinking in the house. I am snacking less, no takeaways, so may come out of this a bit lighter. As for the Pub I'mm missing the conversation, some of the Lads, Pool, Darts and Doms. TBF not missing it as much as I thought I would.

Thanks, its only whilst the Bunker Premier League is being played. I wonder if there will be any left by time this is over? It was a year on the 31st March when we went on that first hike up to the Castle Eden Inn , Cricket Club and Hesleden Club , canny day

The Volunteer? Most of the pubs in York are decent , my favourites are though the Phoenix and the Rook & Gaskill as well as the Volunteer

We set out to beat the York pub crawl record once, me and the mates. It was after spending the day at Headingley.
Talk about destined to fail. I think we got through about seven pubs out of 100.

The Leeds to Huddersfield train stopping at all the stations with a pub on is brilliant

Aye we tried that, in more than one place. You never win but it's mandatory and good fun.

I'm really missing the pub. Normally only go out a couple of times a month, and I really took it for granted.

Thankfully there's loads of good ones round here, at least a couple of them should survive.

Reading a book about Britain's lost Breweries , great reading but quite sad, one of the many breweries listed is Shipstones . Working in a brewery would've been my job of choice if I could go back in time, some of the perks they got , Draymen drinking for free 7 or 8 pints a day , coupons for so many pints at the end of the week, office workers able to go downstairs and pull themselves a pint whenever they felt like it, unbelievable !

Me grandad worked at Camerons on the brewing side for many years, but I don't think he used to get as many perks as that.

The Shipstones brand has been revived and they are knocking out some really good ales. I remember them being fucking awful in the mid-90s, it became known as 'Shittos' instead of 'Shippos' because it was so poor.

There's loads of really excellent breweries here now, Castle Rock, Blue Monkey, Dancing Duck, Navigation, Nottingham Ales etc. Truly spoiled for choice on a night out. Or will be when they return. *sobs*

Yeah I know, Nottingham according to the book was always a good place for beer , talking even 1800s here , because of the limestone beneath the city that gave way to a variety of caves, that were ideal for keeping beer in before cooling technology was invented.

Went to a lot of the good pubs there when in Nottingham for Notts Co games , the postponed game a few years ago and last season , love Blue Monkey and Castle Rock, a few good pubs up the Derby Road, think one was called the Organ Grinder

Aye the Organ Grinder is a Blue Monkey pub. They've got a few of them in different places.

I think the river water here was naturally good for beer production as well, not quite as good as Burton a bit further upstream but still decent.

Yes it says that about the water in the book as well. As for Shipstones , it apparently left the brewery in good condition but it was the licencees who couldn't look after it well , quite often resulting in a vinegary taste , the beer thus acquiring the nickname The Basford Strangler

Ha! Never heard that before.

I used to work very close to the brewery site, which is now owned by an auction company. Beautiful red brick Victorian affair.

There are two very good pubs close by that we spent far too many nights in after work, the Lion and the Coach and Horses.
