None near me and I’m using them to try and avoid busy shops, as I’m helping my friend look after her parents who are over 80

In fact I went into a local shop and got a few bits the lady behind the counter clocked me looking in the bread section, which was empty and asked me if I’d like a loaf as she’d set a few aside

I’ve noticed my local Morrison’s has removed it food bank drop off basket, I think people been stealing from it

Mr I, any chance of posting a sticky for some kind of group where people discuss helping out neighbours who may need looking in on and that kind of thing?

And don’t forget, if you can spare it, donate to your food bank

The Greatham villagers have posted a form through every door with a list of volunteers phone numbers, going well and looking after the aged members.

Bolams apparently , prices up by 25%, though owner insists due to increased costs in supply chain etc which may be partly true

Not sure if you are aware of this but a Hartlepool Nurse working at James Cook Hospital got her windscreen smashed whilst parked in the staff car park by someone accusing health workers of spreading the virus. And this is becoming a common theme amongst the many thickets of our region.

Yesterday Tesco was open from 09.00 til 10.00 for nhs workers, my daughter who works for NHS was queuing just after 09.00 to pick up a few bits, she showed me a video she took outside, there was a queue right across the front of the store and down the length of the car park alongside Brenda road towards Burn road all with trolleys. I hadn’t realised there was so many working for the NHS? What gave the game away was that if they were NHS workers they would have known that standing side by side and in squashed up queues they had multiplied immeasurably the chances of picking up the virus. IGNORANT IDIOTS!!!!!

"A shocking video of a man licking toiletry products in a supermarket after asking ‘who’s scared of coronavirus?’ has gone viral online. In the short clip the man, believed to be from Missouri, in the US, can be seen running his tongue along items on the shelf while looking at the camera. An on-screen caption reads: ‘I’m a nasty moths f***er’."

He should ceratinly be on this list and his moth fucking antics should be reported to the RSPCA.

Glad I'm here and not there. The lockdown has barely started yet but most of the deplorable shite I've read online occurs there. Know a call centre worker over there, people apparently stealing actual paper, as in, the stuff in printers. Unreal.

I heard from mate last night who told me a mutual friend who’s a private driver but works 23 got finished by them. All private drivers gone and half of the people who work for them got rid of just like that.

It seems a bit mad to me that taxi drivers are losing jobs when we’re seeing pictures or packed public transport. Surely the government should be using taxi firms (with strict cleaning and hygiene regulations) to transport key workers and shutting down all public transport? How can you have a ‘lockdown’ then have all public transport running? It was one of the first things to go here. It’s not a lockdown more of a token gesture.

the word lockdown should never have been used it the first place. staying at home with conditions attached is not an alabama jail type lockdown. bloody media again with their emotive language. there are still people who have not got a car and cannot drive that are essential workers. public transport is still needed for them if only them.

Totally agree. We already have a word, quarantine, which exactly defines the position we are all now in.
"A state, period, or place of isolation in which people or animals that have arrived from elsewhere or been exposed to infectious or contagious disease are placed."

That article is about Wetherspoons not paying their suppliers!
Where does the chief medical officer come into it unless Wetherspoons have taken over his job.....? There is no mention whatsoever of the chief medical officer so what’s the connection you’ve arrived at, do enlighten me...?

I’m trusting the advice of the medical experts and scientists. We are in a crisis, whinging on about your shallow political prejudices won’t change fuck all. Keep your point scoring till it’s over.
Any politician in charge would be getting the same advice and hopefully heeding it.
The Germans by the way are testing the younger generation, so hardly scientific analysis but makes the figures comforting...as one Italian doctor pointed out, the testing is all very good but you can have the all clear one day and the virus the next. She recommended isolation every time.

That’s taking tenuous to new levels. I dare say he might have as they’re shut. Seriously though, what’s that got to do with your disturbing allegation the chief medical officer is refusing to pay their suppliers? Those articles you quoted make no mention of this. What is the connection?
OK, it’s a joke I take on your part, but anyone seeing it could assume the chief medical officer isn’t paying suppliers as opposed to Tim the ‘New’ Chief Medical Officer....?

I was staying out of this but I have to respond. There is nothing the UK government can do to speed this up at all shouting loud doesnt make a blind bit off difference, i had the MOD this morning trying to do that to me for one of their labs. The bottle neck is sample preperation and extraction of the RNA from the swabs etc and the machines to do it. The delivery of these are being prioritised by order of need to scale up. The reason germany are doing more as they had more of the machines in the first place as its a bigger country. Also our MK command centre has just started ramping up so of course we are a little behind.

To be fair, I don't think the only reason Germany had more machines was the size of the country. They've got a population that is about 20% bigger than the UK and they're testing at rates between 500% and 1000% faster than the UK. I'm thinking cutting everything to the bone and then ignoring WHO advice on handling the situation might have been factors too.

It’ll settle into political point scoring I thought, but not this early.
If the house is burning down you don’t gripe, you do something about it.

Well I don't know about it being point scoring.
I mean can anyone ever remember the unwashed masses saying "what a great government"!
It's never going to happen.

BTW Snowy can we have a car analogy instead of that one please.

I'd also like a different analogy Snowy. The house fire one doesn't really work because there is nothing I can actually do about the shortage of machines. If I just start running about with buckets of water I'll get arrested. Haven't you got a nautical one that would fit better?

Which bit is irrelelvant? Are you saying that the government's spending cuts haven't had an impact on health related research projects? Or are you saying that their decision to ignore WHO advice and waste weeks on a herd immunity strategy had no impact?

Political point scoring? Isnt that just what the government have done for last 4 weeks?

Our governemnts responses have been pathetic.

No PPE for the front line health workers, desoite the government claiming there is.
Testing was promised to be ramped up 3 weeks ago, it hasnt been.
There is going to be a shortage of ventilators, again despite the message the government are putting out.

Germany spends far more on its health service than the UK do. If thats politcal point scoring or just fact, you can decide for yourself.

I know the above is all true though as I have a Nurse wife on the front line. I am also sourcing PPE for the NHS myself now via my company. Its a joke. An absolute sick joke. And yet you say political point scoring.

Nobody is saying you personally are not doing a great job. That doesnt give you the right to defend the indefensible. Talk to any doctor or other health worker and they will all tell you the same. The NHS has been raped and pillaged for years by this government and its all coming home to roost in one pandemic.

I am saying that its not the issue about spending cuts purchasing the machines in the past. They and by which i mean PHE should have listened to the technical people who created these machines that they where needed two years ago. Thats why only the uni and companies really had ones that where taken. FYI the UK government where the first country in the world to place a bulk order for the machines
