Just been reading some news from varying outlets on his demise, nobody has reported whether he was injured or not, seems odd to be out the night before a game!

I think at first he was genuinely making an observation but as he was immediately jumped on, as usual, he decided to join in and turn it into a wind up (as observed by Madjohn).

We are all different and see things differently and that in itself is not a bad thing.

If you are having a face to face conversation with someone you can easily see when they are serious but the written word is easy to mis-interpret and we need to remember that.

I'm not defending anybody's opinion or position here but people do see things differently and react differently.

Whether Mr Butt deserves the stick he gets on here is a matter of opinion, the fact is that he gets it.

He doesn't get it from everybody and that is a pointer in itself.

None of the rest of us considered whether the victim should have been there or not but other people do consider these questions. Obviously Mr Butt is one of them. You can't tell people what to think or not to think.

We could of course have every post vetted before publication and apply censorship but I'm not sure if we are ready to go down that road.

I can't see what age has got to do with all this. When I was a kid some people were racist and others weren't, in fact, lots were actively anti-racist. Same in the 80s and 90s, plenty of bigots, not to mention violent loons, at football and plenty of people who weren't so you got fanzines etc arguing for sanity, tolerance etc. The balance has shifted in a generally positive direction over the years but there are still plenty of younger people with views that you'd hope to have seen the back of years ago.

Truth is that all this "winding up snowflakes" nonsense is just a weak cover for people who have always been nasty continuing to trot out the same vile crap as they have since they were at school. For some of them that was only a couple of years ago while others are even older than me, and I'm fairly ancient. Monkeybutt's problem isn't that he's old, it's that he's always been a bigot and you can see that in everything he posts whether the comments are meant to be jokes or not. Benefits, race, sexuality, disability, football - the subject doesn't matter, there's always hate at the heart of what he writes.

I am not up anybody's arse, nor am I looking for bites but I can tell you that I live not far from Retford and it is conversation around here and Mr Butt isn't the only one asking that question. I think everyone should cut some slack on this and wait for the facts to reveal themselves, if they ever do.

As I said in my post, I am not defending anyone or anything, within the subject matter. I believe in freedom of speech and freedom of thought. I have chose not to comment on the case itself or ask questions about it. I don't know enough about the case. I don't know whether it was a chance meeting which ended in a fracas or whether it was organised. I know that tragically a guy was killed and I know that three youngsters have been arrested and another cleared. I also know that any fracas can end in death. I wouldn't ask the question myself but I know that others have. That is their choice.

Because I choose not to condemn Mr Butt on this occasion, that doesn't mean I agree with what he is saying but merely his right to say it. I offer the same consideration to all posters.

People can say what they like and if you want to take issue with what people say then you are free to do so.

I don't think you and Mr Butt are ever going to be bosom buddies but that's not my business.

If Mr Butt or anyone else is seen to be in breach of the rules of this forum then it is up to the upholders of the rules to deal with it. As I have never seen a set of rules I can't tell you whether he is in breach or not, therefore I am not going to condemn him. I apply that philosophy to all members of the forum.
