Thanks for those lovely memories you gave a school kid on that warm sunny afternoon in 1966. A player ahead of his time. A moment in time when dreams did come true.RIP

Agreed Snowy. It hits home to us older ones as they one by one pass on. And it was a time of feel good for Pools as well as Martin Peters and co gave our team a lift and it was exciting to go to the old ramshackle Vic minus Mill House Stand and that potential death trap Clarence Road wooden "stand." A time of more innocence in the game and a ball that seemed heavier. Pools back then were briefly a team who gave us a belief and as for Martin Peters, West Ham fans dined out for years on the perceived fact that they won the world cup for England on account of supplying Peters, Moore and Hurst, two of whom got the goals that beat Beckenbaur and crew. Lovely memories Martin Peters. Rest in peace.

Watched a documentary a couple of years ago about what happened after the final whistle and compared to today’s celebrity status it seemed so ...normal. There was no big time Charlie antics and Alf Ramsey told reporters the next day he had work to catch up on in his garden all day.
