Yes, which is why I posted it. Anybody who wasn't an undercover Man United fan, a Tory plant or a Russian bot would have accepted it in the kindly spirit it was intended.

Having said that, I just re-read Johnjo1's post and he probably should fuck right off.

I've got to agree with you and am surprised at the reaction of Mr T, who i have always listed as tolerant.
Maybe people are now showing their true colours.
Anyway welcome to the board.

Has everybody had a humour bypass? I know there's an election but telling new Bunkerites to fuck off is normal and my second post is clearly a joke. Obviously Monkeybutt can't resist a jibe but you're usually pretty sensible Mr Derwent.

I would imagine the new poster is Monkeybutt.

Let’s look at the evidence;

New poster

Tory

Case closed your honour, burn him.

I am not a new poster. I stopped posting sometime ago because I found too many people were just too self opinionated it made debating a waste of time. Again if you have any beliefs other than ‘left wing politics’ you just get abuse on this board. Sometimes it’s just like reading The Daily Worker.

There is far too much abuse and foul mouthed name calling on this site and it's about time there was a curb on it.
Unless of course we all join in and then see where that leads us to.
Lets leave the childish name calling and abuse to the politicians, lads eh???

As it turns out he wasn't a new poster at all so I withdraw my fuck off. Unless PJ is right and JohnJo1 is another Monkeybutt in disguise user in which case he can fuck off for creating multiple user names. Has anybody ever seen JohnJo1 and Monkeybutt in the same room?

You've got a thin skin, or you're bullshitting. The politics threads on this place come alive because as well as the obvious lefties (of which I'm one) there's loads of posts of those very much on the right.

I am with you on a abuse and name calling, people can disagree but still show each other respect* I have been saying that for while on here its always how it used to be. I don’t really have an issue with swearing. In the right context swearing is alright, they are just words. If we did a straw poll of people on here I doubt many are under 35 a even less are offending by swearing.

To be honest I don’t see much foul mouthed name calling* towards other posters though hardly any. The couple of people who are on the end of it more often than not deserve it. Some mild piss taking, plenty of sarcasm but if you are going to ban that you might as well shut the Bunker down. Plus if you can’t call people like Boris Johnson, Micheal Gove or Jacob Rees Mogg names you’ll have to stop the world I’m getting off.

*Not including Sussex, say what you like to him the big daft racist.

stop all politics on here then there might be less name calling. no matter what is said on here i doubt anyone will vote for this party or that or even bother to vote. i can never understand people who vote for certain party, given where they live and the history surrounding the place, but thats their right to do so.

I don't like bans and I'm not calling for any subject to be banned or any person to be banned.
Agree with PJ on wit, sarcasm and pisstaking. The bunker was founded on that but that concept seems to be getting lost as new people join who don't know and appreciate its history.
Each individual sets their own personal standards with a fair smattering of the standards set to them by their parents and grandparents.
Some standards are sacrosanct, however, like manners for instance and, on the subject of swearing, the rule I try to apply is would I use that word in front of me mam or me grannie.
I realise swearing is an impact thing, one of emphasis and I agree that it is more commonly used without reservation amongst the younger element.
However it does cause concern, hurt and upset amongst elderly ladies for example and those who publicly use it like God Bless You ( as me mam used to say) need to think a little bit more.
I travel a lot by train and it is cringeworthy to hear groups of young fellas, within earshot of anybody and everybody, chatting together and almost every other word is fuck or worse.
If you dare have the temerity to ask them to curb it a little, you yourself become the abused.
Nobody knows who is reading this forum and maybe I'm a little old fashioned but if I'm expected to accept the values of the young is it asking too much for my values to receive similar consideration.

it isn,t just groups of fellas either and nothing really new. must be going on 20 years now when i was bus driving in coventry. was parked at a terminus on one of the better areas of the city and two young lasses boarded the bus. at a guess they would be mid teens and no more dispite the make up. they went upstairs and every other word seemed to start with F or C with the main subject of conversation being about other mates shagging experiances.

I'll tell you a true story about an incident on a train.
Two elderly ladies were travelling together on a train.
They were discussing their grandkids and the toys they have and the expense of these toys.
As you would expect the conversation got round to their own childhood and the toys they had.
One of the ladies said.........my favourite when I was young was my golliwog, I loved that doll, it was real and I considered it to be my best friend. I've still got it.
A group of teenagers were sat nearby and one girl said..........that's disgusting you effing racist old cow.
So is your language young lady came the reply.
The old lady couldn't see anything wrong in her description of her doll but the teenager was disgusted and likewise the old lady was disgusted at the way she was spoken to and the "bad" language used.
Everybody can make their own minds up on that one.

It is a slur used to have a pop at middle-aged men British white men - typically at folk who voted the leave the EU, and especially if they are not well educated.

just another example of trying to put modern day thinking about a subject that folk never though anything about in the past. only thing i ever thought at the time was that the black and white minstral show was just really boring and nothing else.

The best of the story is that the women who derwent just so happens to be near has the exact same thought process n attitude to the times of yesteryear that he does!

Chances of that

The message of the story is education, which has been preached on here ad nauseam. The woman is making racist remarks but doesn't understand she is doing so. The girl is being abusive but can't see it.
It might be fake but it was told to me as true but who cares, its the message that is important
I understand it and I suspect you lot understand it as well.

I wasn't on the train....silly billies ( a well known phrase conjured up by a Labour Minister in days of yore)

Isn't it a bit like how it is acceptable for black people to call each other the 'n' word?

Anyone who gets offended by being called a gammon needs to have a word with themself.

Owning a golliwog back in the days wasn't racist. For the kids it wasn't an effigy, just a colourful rag doll made of black cloth. Parents didn't give them to their children as a disguised piss-take of black people.
If there were racial prejudices behind its creation, they were totally lost on the owners. No kid ever acquired disdain for black people because of a golliwog.
Fifty years on they don't go golliwogs any more. That's all that matters.

When I was a kid I lived for a while in Whitby St.West Hartlepool, County Durham.
Round the corner from our house, in between Musgrave St and Temperance St was Lamb St.
In Lamb St an Indian family called Khan lived. They had a son who I was mates with. Mr Khan used to sell carpets and rugs from market stalls and Mrs Khan was a fantastic cook.
I can't for the life of me remember the son's first name but I think he got Khani. It'll come to me.
Anyway we were playing in the back st between Lamb and Temperance one day, there were quite a few of us and we were drowning each other in water fights and somebody called Khani a Wog, not a golliwog just a wog.
I had never heard that word before and it didn't seem to bother the lad.
However when I went home I asked my dad what a wog was. His answer was it stands for Western Oriental Gentleman.
I remember having the impression that it was probably a nice word because of the word gentleman. but it didn't sound complimentary by the way it was hissed out at Khani. Later on of course I understood it to be anything but complimentary.
It is not a word I ever used and still don't but it obviously had an impression on me.
I reckon I was about ten.
Gollies were normal and regular members of "the toybox" and they were everywhere.
Actually if anyone can be arsed to look it up you will find that in a poll held in 2018, 68 per cent of Britons in the sample didn't class golliwogs as racist, as against around 25 per cent who did. The don't knows/ not sures were in the high teens.I think the poll was carried out by yougov but don't quote me. It is a while since I read that and the figures I have quoted are fairly accurate I think.
The generations who associated their childhood with owning a golly need to be cut a bit of slack.
The changes that have happened are phenomenal and they've had to keep up and people in their 80's and 90's sometimes find that difficult. As did those before them.
I find it difficult to call them racist when I consider that some of them stood shoulder to shoulder with people of all creeds and skin colours, each risking their lives as mates to protect the opportunities we enjoy.
Show me any one of them who demonstrated ethnic hate, say for example to the Ghurkas.
As I keep saying.....education is the answer....to everybody, including some of the people who criticise out of hand without even trying to understand.

So you must if you are voting for a party with known anti semitism and has a leader who is incapable to deal with it or even worse condones it.
You call it tactical and pretend it is acceptable for the good of the country.
Would you vote for Tommy Simpson to achieve the tactical success you crave or where do you draw the line???

Derwent I am fairly sure you are a very nice and decent man but this agenda you have adopted since the Dover game is both cringeworthy and embarrassing. This is the second load of contrived bollocks you have offered after the bonkers crap about all your high flying neighbours.

The World evolves and moves on, or at least it should. It doesn't make you bad or wrong for conforming growing up in that environment but at the same time it wouldn't be right for you not to adapt to the World you live in now.

Wind your neck in and give it a rest.

I'm sorry but I am taking no advice or criticism from a two faced crank who's whole life is spent causing argument on a message board. You could start an argument in an empty room and are only interested in picking fault with just about everybody you come across. Maybe you are being given a taste of your own medicine.
You are a self appointed custodian of the moral high ground, but never reach it.
BUT worse of all you pontificate on racism, boast zero tolerance and then make petty excuses for your intention to vote for a party who you have admitted has racism within its domain.
You have been found out, caught with your trousers down, embarassed to the nth degree but not embarassed enough to admit you are a closet racist. You dismiss your racist support for corbyn as tactical, how pathetic. Your tactical claim is purely intended to cover your arse when things go tits up. You think that, by going on the attack, you can disguise your support for racism but I am too long in the tooth to succumb to those pathetic tactics. Even the loids on here have your measure. You are a disgrace to the Poolie nation, you hideous( one of your words) toad.
Gammon.( another one)
Oh and remember you started it, but there's nothing new in that is there.
Now ............ as jerkily as you can.

Isn't it a bit like how it is acceptable for black people to call each other the 'n' word?

Anyone who gets offended by being called a gammon needs to have a word with themself.

I'm not offended by being called it, far from it.

It's the double standards that offend me...

Seriously where do you start with that, I won’t......

Embarrassing. As I suspected these absurd made up stories have a clear and out of touch agenda. You have a screw loose. An absolute hypocrite as well when you are called out. Imagine posting contrived nonsense then calling someone else a crank  stpid

Your stock answer once again........there's nothing made up in that story.
Your problem is you can't handle the truth, nor can you handle people disagreeing with you.
It's you who need help because I really don't think you are actually aware of your behaviour. You look back on the hundreds of threads you have been involved in and you will see who the crank is, you will see how many arguments you have caused, you will see the provocative language you indulge in, you will see the ridiculous dismissing of people who have the temerity to hold a different view to you.
Take my experience of this.
I post something you can't handle so what do you do.
You say it is made up. Why do you do that???
Take my last "made up one"
I said I lived in Whitby St......it was number 90, TRUE Can be checked
I described the other streets.TRUE Can be checked
I described the Khan family , quoting they lived there TRUE can be checked
They had a son. TRUE can be checked
He was racially abused TRUE. Not hard to understand, how many ethnic families were living in the town then. He stood out.
He was my friend. TRUE hard to check but possible
Ethnic People were called Wogs by some TRUE common knowledge
W O G was commonly translated as described TRUE common knowledge
People had golliwogs and loved them TRUE common knowledge
A pool among a sample of brits and result TRUE can be checked
ETC ETC ETC ETC.
I am trying to paint a picture of the era. I was brought up in that era you weren't.
Your response is ridicule. You could listen to the explanations of living witnesses or you could call them made up lies, you chose the latter.
You preach tolerance but never practice it. Anything you don't understand you ridicule. This board is littered with examples of your intolerance.
I've saved the best till last.
On here you take the moral high ground on racism and then make feeble and pathetic excuses as to why you will back a party with a known history of it, however small.
Now that has to be the made up story to crown any made stories.
That is why you are a crank, you just can't handle being scrutinised.
If you don't believe something fine, I can't control your ignorance or lack of understanding but can I suggest you keep your advice to yourself. When I want it I'll ask for it.

Don’t ask them difficult questions! They’ve all filed that in the “too difficult” box.

I don't call right wing people gammon because I can't see how insulting people helps to win them round. Having said that suggesting that it is a racist term is ridiculous. It gets used about overly angry "Get Brexit Done" blokes who are low on facts but big on nationalist opinions. They tend to be white and the flushed pink colour they get when they're really worked up is probably where the term comes from.

So, to answer Mr Alice's question - the colour of your skin isn't acceptable as an insult and that isn't why people are insulting you. If people call you gammon it is because they disagree with you and think you're a blinkered, ill-informed, Boris loving moron who is probably at least a bit racist. I've got no idea if they're right or not and wouldn't call you gammon even if that was true but I'm certain that they're not being racist because the insult refers to your views and anger levels, not all white people.
