Marske are a high ranking team in the Northern Premier league, so we certainly missed out there. Just hope one of the big 4, or one of big European sides don't come in with a multi million pound bid

Captain postage stamp did say he will end up in the Premier League without specifying which one.

On checking he’s not even made the Premier League yet, still languishing in the North West Division which is strange division for Marske to be in!

Remember when social media was full of idiots saying 'he has a trial at Rangers/Man City therefore that means he should be good enough to start for Pools'

Adam Boyd and James Brown, both for their own reasons could have been so much more. If Boydy could have been arsed for his entire career we probably wouldn't have seen him in a Pools shirt for long mind.

That’s more than a bit harsh on Boydy, he didn’t get to the level he should have because of injury. He was never the same player really after 2005\06 when he suffered the bad knee injury against Yeovil (and Scotty refused to sub him straight away) He got a bad infection then was rushed back because we were in relegation trouble.

He still scored over 80 goals for the club and made us half a million quid he owes the club nothing and should be looked back at with a bit more respect than ‘couldn’t be arsed’. He’s one of the most talented players we’ve ever produced and for a period before that injury he delivered.

So prior to his loan spell to Boston you reckon he always gave everything?

As per the thread title, I feel Boyd could have been so much better than he was. That's not in any way saying he wasn't fantastic for a few seasons, he still remains one of our most talented players ever.

He could have been better than he was but he wasn’t because of a knee injury he lost that crucial half a yard/bit of sharpness. But the title of thread is missed opportunity players, he delivered in a Pools shirt and made the club half a million quid (after the injury as well). The perception was he didn’t always give everything but I think local lads sometimes get an even harder time from fans so I’m not sure the perception is fair. Before the Boston loan spell he was a young lad in and out of the team, he was usually the one who got left out and didn’t get a proper run in the team.

Chris Smalling.

As the rumour mill goes, our Chief Exec sent the scouting team to monitor Smalling, with reports being "no better than we already have"... apparently

Can I change my answer to Nathan Luscombe? He was one of the best technical players I saw in a Pools shirt. When he played and was on form he was untouchable, clearly too good for our level. Plus he had the football AM clip where he beat Jordan Henderson at keepy uppies.

But then he was fat, lazy and didn't take his career seriously. As a result, he vanished without a trace.

Good call, I watched him when he was on trial against Leeds reserves and he was awesome.

I remember going in Coral at the bottom of York Road to put a coupon on the way to the Millhouse on a day we were playing Charlton, Luscombe was in there on his own his gambling in full club tracksuit he looked like he’d just fell out of the pub. I got to the game and he was on the bench I remember him warming up in front of us alongside Jason Euell who was probably about double his age. Euell looked like an Olympic athlete, Luscombe was wearing this ridiculous long coat that made him look like an Easter Egg on legs. An absolute waster.
