Seeing as I never got a game I'll go for the illustrious Mr Borthwick.

You'd have to go a long way to see someone worse than Marvin Morgan!!

Jermaine Easter but then he left Pools and his career skyrocketed. :violence-shootself:

Easter never got a proper chance and he wasn’t that bad when he played, we had a decent side then remember. He was just the chosen one picked out to be the escape goat from those who like that sort of thing. Plus he was a young lad lacking experience and confidence you could see he looked like a footballer.

I reckon all things considered I’m voting for Steve Howard’s second spell getting paid a fortune, thought he was above us, didn’t try a leg and was absolute dog shite.

Danny Hughes always struck me as a player who had no football ability whatsoever in the few minutes I saw him play.

Think it was Danny Hughes anyway, central midfielder possibly signed under Turner and maybe went to be a Fireman when we got shot?

I remember being at Shrewsbury away the night Paul Baker scored a crucial last minute winner after Denny Ingram missed a penalty and Hughes was playing and getting a fair bit of stick from the away end for as you say, being a bit shit, after a while we realised the people next to us were his family and friends. They must have agreed though, they had eyes. If we hadn’t scored that last minute winner though we’d have probably gone out of League a long time before we did and Chris Turner might not have lasted long as manager.

Howard's second spell.. Final payoff and could tell he genuinely couldn't be arsed. It was too soon though I suppose.

Nooo! There were far worse keepers than him. Moverley, Tunks, Lee-Barratt, take your pick.

Unless your're thinking of Hartlepool legend David Atkinson?

He was ok, but for some reason, as I kid, I decided he was my favourite player. All the other lads took the piss out me.

Armann Bjornsson. Albeit my memory of him is entirely shaped by that incredible miss at Huddersfield!

I'm immediately thinking of some of the players from the post-Busby relegation era...

Kona Hislop - who went round in ever decreasing circles, and on the rare occasion he shot it made Geoff Thomas look accurate
Paul Daughtry - pocket-sized winger who had been told he was too small to be a pro, and then disappeared without trace to prove it
Nicky Peverell - when we signed him and Phil Gilchrist at the same time, Peverell was the star name having scored for fun for Boro Reserves and youth - amazingly, after we'd let him go we re-signed him for a brief spell, why?

There were any number of youth team products in the Busby era, they though can be excused somewhat as they were thrown in simply because we didn't have anyone else. The fact that Denny Ingram played about 200 games for us in that period speaks volumes....

Quite agree, although Ronnie Moore did go a long way to sign him - Plymouth and back in a day.

There was one game, possibly at home v Millwall (I may be wrong) where their centre half was constantly shoving him and getting in his face and Bjornnson totally lost it and suddenly started putting himself about, clattering into him and looked a right handful.

His rage lasted about 30 minutes till he calmed down and then he looked shit again.

Michael Proctor very poor at Pools.

Louis Laing took a lot of beating for poor performances here.

Craig Veart, didn’t play many but was a typical dip shit headless chicken, he carried excess poundage too so wasn’t as fast as he thought. Another Boro reject who to be fair, we got shot of the fat fuk ASAP.

How very dare you! You’ll have the evangelists after you.

I disagree with you as it happens, and think you’re wrong to limit it to left back.

He scored that game I’m sure with the type of header a Centre Forward of his size should have scored most weeks, a towering back post header. We beat Millwall 3-0 that day in League One. He just lacked any sort of bottle and aggression that would have made someone of his ability a good footballer. That miss though was implausible 99.9% of wheelie bins would have stuck that away. Again though, that day we still won away at Huddersfield on Boxing Day and went 6th in League One.

Rob Moverley anyone? Long dead relatives have been less stiff.

Llewellyn, cant think of his first name. Under Scotty I think. Came with a decent reputation but was utter gash for us.

How about a worst player/worst recruitment double. Remember how underwhelming all Scotty's signings were? Even on paper.

Honourable mentions to the appalling likes of Jon Sunderland, Kudus Oyenuga and Tony Canham, but the undisputed winner is Robbie Elliott. An utter disgrace in a Pools shirt. I believe he was busy trying to sell his $1.5M New York apartment at the time...

I recall the complete opposite our expectations were to challenge for automatic promotion that season. Proctor, Darren Williams and Bullock had all come from Championship clubs with experience at that level and higher, Thomas Butler had signed permanently and was a quality player Llewelyn was one of the best opposition players we’d seen at the Vic the season before setting up goal after goal for Juan Ugarte in the 6-4 game. On paper we looked like we were trying to push on obviously that’s not how it worked out! The season unraveled due to appalling mismanagement first from Scott then Ken Hodcroft, we should never of been relegated with that squad even factoring in the injuries to Boyd and Porter.

Yeah I remember that. A really good header. Completely outdid the centre half.

It's a decent point I suppose about him being technically good but I just remember him being massively underwhelming. And like I say whenever his name comes up I just think of that miss

hardest question i have ever been asked. each decade had its shite ones, ones that came with big reputations and were dire. i,ll leave the football league players alone as at least pools were playing in it. go for someone who had everything but ability louis lang.
