I'm particularly angry about deteriorating grammar and punctuation standards, like.

Here's my prediction over the racist issue. Hey its Hartlepool United and we need to set a precedent to stop this thing at home. Either a huge crippling fine, a points deduction or worse, both. Got to set an example old boy. A punishment that contrasts greatly to what a Premiergreedyship club would get for similar. Hope I'm wrong. There's your ball rolling thomas1974 on one of your chosen subjects.

Nothing about future managers - Sweeney`s job
FA charges - What will be will be.

What is your favourite soup?

I’m furious about this thread.

Sorry I’ve been too busy turning the front of house into a Jimmy Saville shrine so tonight is a bit quieter to post stuff Thomas wants to read about.

Maybe the board is dead because today we finally got our country back! Can't wait for the NHS to be saved and the roads to be paved with gold due to how much richer we'll be!

A breach of FA rule E20, this rule on checking was altered in 2014 to prevent teams appealing against the charge if a discriminatory reference was implied or expressed.
Now what I can't understand (and I'm not suggesting the Dover player concerned did this as I wasn't close enough) is why are the FA not clamping down on the practice of players cupping their hands behind their ears as they run along a stand of opposing fans?, surely this act is inciting a reaction from fans?, otherwise why do it?, and although most if not all fans just ignore it, it should not be allowed in the game today for me.
Fans should be able to control themselves at a football game but so should players also?. Btw I am not apportioning the blame for our incident on the players rather than the fans, but I am concerned that most reports of the incident are suggesting a 'group' of fans when it seemed to me it was only a lone individual breaching this rule?.... Although one is one too many.

Clamping down on players ‘ear cupping’.

Are you serious?

What about shushing? Worse?? Less worse??

Surely this is discrimination against the hard of hearing?

Only to a bit of an imbecile surely? Ear cupping isn’t offensive or at all inflammatory. If you think that is a major issue in Football then God help you. I think if a players getting abuse or the crowd are trying to put them off putting the ball in the net and a little ear cup isn’t at all overstepping the mark it’s probably the correct response. The Dover celebrations were allowed to continue for far too long by the referee but none of them should have lead to the knuckle dragging scenes that followed. It’s someone who has scored a goal in a GAME, not life or death not even important in the real context of life. If that riles you to that extent then you need help and need a new hobby.

It doesn't rile me just can't see the point of it. Also I don't need you to tell me when to get a new hobby or "help" for that matter.

I wasn’t talking about you unless you were one of the people reacting like that?

With all due respect I think it’s you missing point and the wider issue if you think a player putting his hand to his ear needs ‘clamping down on’.

Possibly, just possibly, it’s the people foaming at the mouth and worse at such an innocuous gesture that need clamping down on ridding from football and wider society?

What is there to say at this stage about the FA charges? They're expected and fair. Hopefully the FA will take the club's actions after the event into account. If they don't there will be something to talk about.

As far as the manager goes why recycle crappy rumours? On Saturday somebody told me that Sweeney won't be getting the job but it will be an "insider from the medical side". Would putting that on here and triggering half a dozen incoherent posts including the word 'Buster' be proof of life?

Better off having a row about ear-cupping. My position is that one-handed ear-cupping and shushing are OK but the full double-handed 'elephant cup' should be an automatic sending off. VAR to be brought in to check hand positioning if necessary.

In the 70's /80's players didn't need to resort to silly little hand gestures to silence abusive fans, they did their talking with their football ability. It's childish and unnecessary.

a few years ago celebrating a goal infront of opposition fans got a caution. now its more or less ignored. dover players seem not to have learned much as i,ve heard their keeper called a stockport fan an effing{used the proper word} manc twat for not throwing the ball back to him last saturday. i know i,ll get some flak for having a go at dover players but who started the incident in the first place. its just the racial bit thats wrong from pools fans.

Players did used to do the pantomime villain thing in the 70s and 80s. Different gestures and remarks but essentially the same thing. Fans used to go for it and get riled up too - all good aggressive fun.

Shouting racist abuse at somebody because they're a bit of a prick isn't OK though. If racism is 'it' you can't argue that Dover's players started it. The racism came from Pools fans, nobody else. If it had just been an unpleasant incident involving swearing the club wouldn't be getting charged and there probably wouldn't be any criminal proceedings either.

Those halcyon days of football the 80’s when the game nearly completely died on its arse!

I also think if anything I remember more crowd interaction with less cameras about. The best goal celebration I have ever seen was from the 70’s on one of those Danny Baker videos I can’t remember the player or even club (Sheffield United springs to mind) but the player celebrated by running around brandishing a double V sign to entire crowd, utterly glorious. That was probably more inflammatory than an ear cup in fairness and miles funnier.

but really how can pools or any club in the country be charged for what an odd person out of 3000 plus does unless that person or persons have done it before and the club did not do anything about it. if i or anyone else with a clean record at games decide to go on the pitch next tuesday and put an uppercut on a solihull player how can pools be held responsible for my actions as well as me.

Failure to steward things properly and control the crowd/Mr Accrington. Been that way for years, initially to deal with hooliganism. I'm not sure it has ever been very effective or fairly applied but it certainly isn't new.

I think the name "semi-colon" is an insult to that particular punctuation mark. It's second only in value to the full stop so if anything it should be a semi-fullstop.
And don't get me going about multiple exclamation marks!!! (unless it's done in humour, à la Muttley, which is OK!!!!).
And talking about grammary spellingy stuff, is there anyway to get the spellcheck on this board into English UK? I object to having a wavy underline under "humour", "spoilt", and "spelt".

Just to add a bit of much-needed balance here - ask Paul Gascoigne how ''imbeciles'' react if you provoke them in the wrong way...
