At the start of the season i had forecast that this would be the game that Pools would start a 12 game unbeaten run....... :obscene-smokingjoint:

Did well to control the ball and squeeze a pass in while on his arse appealing for a free kick that he didn't get.

Certainly wasn't expecting a clean sheet after I seen we were playing 4 at the back! 3 goals as well. Nice work but like always we always seem to follow a win up with a defeat .. hopefully not next time

Looks like Sweeney is bookies favourite good luck to the lad spot on start.

I think the back three was getting ditched after the first half on Wednesday whoever was in charge today we were all over the place defensively and even in the games we weren’t we haven’t been keeping clean sheets. That’s a game a half without being scored against with the back four. If we want to be more consistent (and we have to be) that starts with the way we defend and surely the easiest way to improve that is playing a solid, organised back four. Raynes and Kerr are big lads we play in the National League I’d rather see them heading and clearing it than splitting to receive short passes from the keeper at the end of the day!

Bit premature after 1 game. How many other ex players have we promoted within? How many of them were successful?

Yeah! If you'd been at bit more aware and quicker to react at Plainmoor I wouldn't have been limping for a week. Prick.

Fair play to Sweeney. The 4-4-2 was brave and it's great that he wasn't afraid to make attacking substitutions when Pools were struggling to defend a narrow lead.

Still, it looks as if the biggest difference between Wednesday night and Saturday was the tactical situation. With a 2 goal lead for most of the game, Stockport were able to pack the defence and frustrate Pools' passing game by giving them no space in their half. On Saturday Aldershot were chasing the game from the 4th minute and always vulnerable to a quick counter-attack.

All we need now is an experienced National League manager to come in, ditch the passing game, encourage the team to start booting it long and give Adam Bale 45 minutes playing up front. I'd have Money on it!

I was there, just an hours drive from me.

Did we change our style? Yes and no, I'd say that side was tweaked not radically changed. Was a cracking atmosphere generated by the home fans with a pro drummer amongst their ranks. In persistent rain a high scoring game looked likely. Shots looked confident after their strong midweek win over Dover, but Pools looked a bit pissed off to be honest. I don't think even the players were expecting Hignett to be sacked and there seemed a fresh determination. Decent crowd on "non league day", no surprise when you could get in for £2!

Killip produced some excellent saves and there was some poor finishing, but Hawkes is direct and with the wet surface he did the right thing in driving at their defence for the first goal. Penalty was stone wall and should have been driven down the middle and put us in control at 0-2 going into HT.

Second half and Kioso made the best tackle of the season so far robbing a player just before the penalty spot as he was about to pull the trigger, and then we started to dominate down his side, the James control for the second is excellent and just when the Shots defence thought Hawkes was tiring, on comes Holohan to drive at them. His goal was nice coming from the right side, the third was beautiful, fast, first touch and direct resulting in a lovely sliding finish from Kabamba.

The goal celebrations show what a good group we have, there doesn't seem any issues with the togetherness. Perhaps the 'loss' of Noble has helped this.

I have no problem with Featherstone and Kennedy, but sometimes the directness and speed of Hawkes and Holohan can creative real problems for defences. Against Stockport we went right, right, right, then left, left, left, back and right, right, right. Always waiting for a killer ball. But they defended in numbers and deep. On Saturday there was more forward, more running and more risk taking. It worked.

Yes Shots should of had a couple of goals, but we should have scored a penalty and the final score would have been 2-4.

Kudos to Ben Killip who was on top form. Centre two looked determined to keep a clean sheet. Kioso superb, Kitching solid. Mafuta goes under the radar but is working well with Featherstone. Hawkes excellent, not a Gimme Toure day by any stretch of the imagination. Kabamba strong and Donaldson probing.

I only get to the Southern games now, the atmosphere was excellent, some old school singing in the terrace and felt like Pools of the football league days.

That touch from James was lush

Imagine hating one of your own players that much you can’t even appreciate when he does something really good.

It’s a shame and really really sad
