as long as those who really care have millions in the bank then they will rise again. its 21st century football where money really is the king.

Sadly this is where the disconnect is at the minute - too many clubs living too far beyond their means, in the hope that promotion will bring the financial rewards. For large parts of the Championship, crazy stuff is happening in attempts to reach the fabled land of milk and honey that is the Premier League. Derby for example sold their ground to their owner for £80million to fund their attempts to get into the Premier - and even then, spent more than 30% more than their actual turnover on wages (BBC Article: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47789258) which is nothing like sustainable. They also have the situation that they no longer own their ground, and while all might be hunky dory now what happens next time there's a change of owner?

It has a knock on impact as well, as everyone else feels the need to spend as well just to keep up. And so you end up with clubs reliant on Sugar Daddies, or having to accept that they just can't compete unless they have an exceptional manager getting the best out of a cheaper squad. Sugar doesn't stay sweet forever, and it falls apart. Seem to recall that in many ways that was us under Gary Gibson - while he had money, all looked brilliant - six figure transfer fees for the likes of Sav and Lenny, and the excitement of not just competing but doing well in the old Division 3, and then his business started getting into difficulties and the money dried up. Fortunately we had Sir Harold to rescue us, but even at that point it was reaching the point where unless you had a multi-millionaire ready to stump up the cash you were in trouble.

Conn in the Grauniad reckons the Bury deal went south because the lender of the £3.7million secured on Gigg Lane wouldn't compromise - can't say I blame the people interested for that. Who in their right minds is going to stump up north of £5million (and that's probably a big under-estimate) for a club whose natural level is League 2? How can a club even service that level of debt on their crowds? These are more than businesses, but at the end of the day they are also businesses. Until they are run by proper businessmen rather than speculators on ego trips, there will be more of this sort of thing.

Apparently Dave Jones and some Brazilian fella. S'ok though, we are now being asked for a minutes applause on the 27th minute of all EFL games tomorrow, to congratulate the EFL on kicking them out of the league I presume.

The Brazilian feller, allegedly a multi-millionaire, is a pastor - they must pay their clergymen in rain forest over there!

If he's Brazil's equivalent of grasping TV evangelists in the US of A, Bury fans need to give their heads a shake if they believe he's going to chuck £7 million their way. It's got 'publicity stunt' written all over it.

Another Graun article underlines the hopeless mess Bury were in, with a relative of the chairman hoping to pocket £1.75 million for a £70,000 debt that was assigned to him.

Hopefully at least a couple of people there will go the way of the TMH boys in due course.

If prospective buyers had to deposit a bond of £250k with the EFL and all financial transactions for the first 24 months closely monitored by the EFL, may be the opportunist owner would be eliminated.

Yes this would create jobs for football savvy accountants.

sounds too much like common sense for the efl to get involved in.

See the MPs and the like who have take it upon themselves to 'save' Bury are still trying to get the EFL to bend the rules and only relegate them to League Two.
https://www.espn.co.uk/football/bury/st ... n-says-efl

Without all the media hype ("historic club blah blah blah") this wouldn't even get a discussion. Hopefully the EFL and the FA will do the right thing - these are dangerous times to be tearing up (another) rule book!

for me if the club gets sold to credible buyers the best they should bet is being a national league club from next season with only 1 down from division 2. no more no less for em.

Had a very polite letter back from Becky at EFL and they are reviewing the process which resulted in Bury's demise!
