Ashes

Renamed in memory of John Hawksworth, a stalwart member who passed this day 2nd August 2020. RIP Mr Monkeybutt.

Sadly we must add the name of Kevin Minton, Aka Mr Ripper who passed 30/6/22. Kev was also Mr politically incorrect but a nicer lad you could never meet.

Warner, poetic justice. Nicked the bottom of his bat, only Bairstow appealed. Umpire gives not out, should have reviewed. Shortly afterwards, given out LBW, should have reviewed, would have missed off stump

I’m not sure I’ve seen a day of Test C ricket were the umpires have got so much wrong.

The Siddle inside edge was totally obvious on first viewing.

Thank Gawd there's already been a day lost to rain in this one. Only need a couple more days lost to the weather and England might secure a draw.

Warner played really well against the pace attack early on and Lavatorychain didn't do bad either apart from that the Aussies have a bit to worry about.
Come on England. :banana-linedance:

Warner was just out and put lucky early on you need a bit when the ball is moving around but Broad could have got him out about 15 times.

I think we can forget about Roy as a Test opener, awful shot.

I reckon a batting order with the same players that was this would see us doing better;

Burns
Denly
Stokes
Root
Roy
Bairstow
Buttler

Why bat your best player in Root, is position he doesn’t like batting?

At the minute we are 3 down for nothing nearly every time we bat.

Roy is diffidently not an opener in Tests he just cant control his instinct to hammer the ball and therefore better down the order on older ball/tired bowlers.

Can we just shoot Smith? Is that allowed? Nothing too serious just in his leg or summit. Probably be easier than getting him out.
Arguing with idiots is rather like trying to play chess with a pigeon, it knocks the pieces over, craps on the board and flies back to its flock to claim victory.

I preferred the script writer for the last two Ashes tests.

Smith out to Leach for 118 and it's a no ball? Honestly, who's going to believe that?

Loads of scoreboard pressure now but it’s as flat as a witches tit this wicket, a poor surface. A draw isn’t a disaster here bat properly once and we go to the Oval with a chance of getting back the urn.

I don’t think the follow on is an issue they won’t enforce it with only three days gap to the Oval. The Aussies game plan will be to bowl us out tomorrow and give the bowlers some rest. An hour of Buttler would be nice after lunch though.

We have been robbed by the weather as only one team was winning at Lords!!

I think the Aussie ‘dominance’ has been overplayed a little Cummins especially and Hazlewood are fantastic bowlers bit so are Broad and Archer the difference has been the freak bating four for them. One man. He’s been that ridiculous you wouldn’t rule out a double hundred to win this Test for them other than the fact the rest of the Aussie batting is worse than ours!!

To put those ridiculous odds in perspective (you can get 5/1 at William Hill which is equally absurd) in over 2,300 Test Matches in 142 years more than England’s current lead has been chased down three times and we still have two w ickets (screw you Mr I  ) left and less than 40 runs from never been done territory. The highest fourth innings chase at the Oval is 260 so I hope you didn’t put much on!!!
