Because he's been with them for 4 years (since he was 18) and they developed him as a player?

compensation/ fee (s) are slightly different . Gateshead may have offered White a new contract and as he under 24 then they'll be entitled to compensation. If he takes up any offer ( not just from Pools) then that club would have to pay compensation. If the clubs cant agree any compensation amount then it will be set by the compensation committee, Each club has to provide evidence why they believe there figure is correct. That committee will take many things into consideration... whether fee paid originally for the player length of contracts offered, age/playing record , length time time spent at previous club, terms offered by both clubs, if interest shown by any other clubs, status of the clubs. A fee is simply decided by the selling/buying club by agreement

Bob, I understand all that but my point is that (it was reported) that Gateshead had released all the players (except Barrow) so that would suggest that White wasn't offered a new contract. In those circumstances he would be a free agent and so how would compensation be payable? Obviously I must be wrong.

Even when released they would be entitled to compensation as they have contributed to his development. It was introduced to protect smaller clubs but the amounts are usually next to nothing. I think Gateshead poo would benefit from his next move as well, just a small percentage if he went for a fee.

If Tom White is as good as Ben Clark says he is Pools should work something out with Gateshead and pay them a reasonable amount.

44 games last season, 11 bookings and 2 sendings off - definitely the kind of player who's not afraid to mix it in a midfield battle!

Not sure what's gone on there! I'm normally quite good at watching where my poos end up.

thought it only came in if the player was offered a contract in the first place by his club and he refused it and wanted to move on. some players under 24 have been with one club all their lives from acadamy days but just get a free transfer and thats it.
