Halifax guessy game

Renamed in memory of John Hawksworth, a stalwart member who passed this day 2nd August 2020. RIP Mr Monkeybutt.

Sadly we must add the name of Kevin Minton, Aka Mr Ripper who passed 30/6/22. Kev was also Mr politically incorrect but a nicer lad you could never meet.

An enjoyable game in the sunshine. The two Pools goals were class and the one they conceded was shite, which seems about par for the second Hignett era so far. Cool finish from Rodders though.

It was good to get a look at Holohan but a bit worrying that Pools were only marginally better than Halifax, who are another below mid-table side. It's going to take more than 2-3 quality signings to turn this squad into promotion contenders for next season.

Dunno what was going on at left back? Anderson is a centre-back or nothing, and he was absolutely tortured by their number 33 when he came on second half. Yet Kitching and Amos were both sat on the bench for the full 90 minutes.

To be fair Halifax where actually above us until today's win. While I agree Anderson is no left back Kitching wasn't on the bench and I assume Amos ain't going to be here next year so they're playing with Anderson as he will or might be perhaps.

I thought Holohan had a great game. Could be a great asset if that's a sign of things to come. Featherstone was absolutely outstanding too as was Molyneux.

I thought we controlled the game. Their keeper made at least 2 great saves and Kabamba missed a very good chance early and they only scored due to a bad mistake from Kioso.

One of our better home performances this season but that doesn't mean much.

Featherstone tied everything together in the middle, but we still need a midfield ball winner. Was the first goal Kioso's fault? It was on the other side of the pitch and saw someone trying to dribble out of defense after their attack had broken down, but the blasted nuclear bomb in the sky made opening eyes very difficult. It's a rare day I leave Vicky park with 2nd degree burns and we win. But it was worth it.

Kioso tried to take the lad on and lost the ball leading to Rodney scoring!

The way I saw their goal the initial mistake for their goal was from Edgar, trying to play it out from a tight position. Then, again, I convinced myself Kitching was on the bench so maybe Edgar was nowhere near!

As the saying goes, there were plenty of positives - Holohan's home debut for one, but Pools were a long way from controlling the game in my book and we keep conceding soft goals. Halifax looked a decent side and were just another reminder that it's a very competitive division. Mr Charco's comment about Featherstone is spot on - he was one of our best players and has made a better fist of becoming a defensive midfielder than I could ever have imagined, but Pools still don't have anyone who is capable of putting a foot in and breaking up the opposition's play.

Noble on the other hand- think he's playing his way out of a new contract if he's not already on a 2 year deal.

I thought Noble did well when he came on, some good interceptions and tackles and some forward passes, finding team mates.

Think iv seen Noble make maybe 2 tackles all season. Far too slow to ever get close to anyone.
I'd recommend a more stealthy plan than googling 'afternoon tea dog'.
