I wouldn’t be surprised if clubs were interested in him but suggesting he missed today’s game because of an immanent move to Sheffield doesn’t make any sense.

He can’t play for any new club until next season why would he miss a game in April?

A club at a higher level would want him to be playing, gaining more confidence and experience in competitive first team football, not missing games even if they had agreed a deal.

Maybe to avoid injury.

Wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that we only named 4 subs today. Probably not as we have a lot of injuries but strange that we didn't just put a youngster on the bench.

Nobody would be surprised if Hawkes was sold in the summer, but I'm not buying the idea that he has been taken out of the firing line because a deal has already been struck with the Wendies or anyone else.

How would that be in Pools' interests? The transfer window is closed till the summer and he may as well be playing and keeping himself in the shop window. What if other clubs are interested? It would have to be one hell of an offer for a deal to be done this early.

Have to agree. If you were buying a car you wouldn’t want to leave it with the person you’ve bought it off for a few weeks so he can go on rally cross with it.

Even if Sheff United did sign him they would be loaning him out anyway so the injury thing dont make sense to me. (Unless they think he is of Championship or Premiership quality and obviously he is nowhere near)

I think he is just injured.

Sheffield United could be in the Premier League next season, Wednesday even have an outside chance of the play offs. Even if he was to sign for one of those clubs they don’t start the season for over 4 months plus he’s not realistically going to be anywhere near the first team of either at first. Why would they stop him playing first team football? The plan for a player like him would be likely to loan him out to a lower league club at first anyway, why would they stop him playing now? It makes no sense.

The thigh injury has stopped him training the week before last and was why he was only sub then has prevented training last week or even being on the bench this, it’s your classic 2+2=5.

I obviously don't know what is going on and any of the theories could be possible, so here is another one.
IF a pre contract agreement has been struck with any of the so called interested clubs and IF he has had a medical, the prospective buyer could be insisting that no further action takes place until he has completely recovered.
In other words we'll just have to wait and see.

He’s not out of contract is he so I’m not sure he can sign a pre contract agreement? He’s our player, we pay his wages another club can’t dictate when he’s selected. If he’d signed for anyone for a fee when the window reopens then it would have been announced.

We need a podcast to quash this

Have we been here before? Nathan Thomas maybe a couple of years older but on his day was a far superior footballer went to Sheffield united unfortunately ended up in league 2 with Carlisle. Is it better to be a steady footballer or a very good inconsistent footballer

I've been on the Bunker about 8 years now and the only rumours about players that have been consistently reliable have come from Mr. Compo. When he says Hawkes is going to Sheffield I'll believe it.

That, or when it actually happens. :-)

Hawkes was interviewed in the Maidens Lounge before the match. Slight groin injury so was left out.
