It’s an interesting concept but I don’t how practically it could work ultimately you have to be one or the other.

Evening training for example, what about the full time players who live outside of the area? I can’t see them buying into it so on one hand you’re gaining on the other potentially losing.

Does it work at other clubs? I haven’t heard of it happening before to be honest, it’s interesting I just have no idea, realistically how it could work practically and within the dressing room.

It's got its problems and it sounds like Hignett knows it might not work but I love the innovative thinking. The stigma against part timers is bollocks, as we've seen.
I wonder if it's even possible to win this league with 100% part timers (the best ones of course)

You could always try reading the article first or is that too much to ask?

All professional footballers r part timers 20 hours a week max getting a full time wage.

Not sure how long pools can survive being full time like.

Raj can probe answer that!

That’s the funniest thing you have ever posted.

It’s something that’s actually happened before at Pools I remember the cup replay at York in the mid nineties most famous for Poolie moonie Stephen Pears stood (you can’t say played) in goal with a torn groin he could barely move because Paul O’Conner?? couldn’t get out of his shift at Black and Decker!!

areed. loads of lads cannot afford to go full time due to having decent jobs and are actually better than full timers at this level. the only problem is their getting time off for the possible long distance and overnight travel to the southern based clubs. said before if it can be made to work a mixture of part time and full time would be something to look at. would surely be better than a team full of mediocre full timers on mediocre wages.

Nothing to do with budget. It's probably to do with frustratingly not being able to sign great local part-timers who could do a great job for us. These players would probably love to play for the Norths biggest non-league club if they could keep their day job.

Don't darlo have part time players? If they do it's not like it's working for them.

Are there rules against part time players in the league? I'd always assumed there was for no real reason.

This season Pools must have done overnight trips for at least half their away games in the National League. Next season looks a bit better but will still involve way more travelling than teams in the Northern leagues have to do. There'll be some good part-timers put off by that alone.

It's an interesting thought, but there were only 2 part-time sides in the NL last season (Chester and Braintree) and one of them got relegated! This season it's Braintree (currently bottom) and Havant & Waterlooville (fourth bottom) who are part-time. Gateshead aren't part-time this season, contrary to rumours.

I don't think the plan is to fill the team with part timers but if there's 2 or 3 standout ones who would improve the squad then find a way to accommodate them. Clearly there would be some compromise involved but it would result in us having better players.

We made compromises with Gordon Watson, he probably could have got away with training part time and still been the best player in the league.
