This little test, from that well known South-east Durham newspaper the New York Times, pinpointed where I am from with uncanny accuracy.
And with an unnatural knowledge of the local vernacular.

Yes, it placed me in the area between Newcastle and Middlesbrough so spot on.

It names a few of the expressions that gave the game away.
Mine were spelk, nick off, croggy, and beck.
I didn't think beck was all that specific, but the rest are Hartlepool down to a tee.
Though to be fair I've never heard anyone call the Burn Valley beck "the Burn" even if the park is called the Burny.

I did this last week and it had me as Newcastle. I did put Hartlepool in the form at the end to help them improve the accuracy, so hopefully this will have set them straight.

Aye, had me from Leeds right across to Scarborough, which is right - born in Leeds and lived all over in West and East Yorkshire so I must've picked up all sorts of crap

Spelk is a postman in the Outer Hebrides now, Nick Off, we haven't seen in donkeys yonks, not surprising like, Croggy is doing time for smuggling llama pelts laced with cocaine and Beck's done rather well. I love his 'Soy Una Perdidor.'

It put me in Durham City, which I can live with.

It's very accurate. It's been doing the rounds on Facebook and I've yet to see someone get an inaccurate result.
