... Billy Horner. We always turned to Billy when other managers failed. For Harrison Bates and Money read 1980s' Duncan or Docherty or 1990's Busby.

Come on Craig get us out of the mire. Billy always brought a small improvement. At least Mr Hignett will try to play football, but are the players capable of it - I doubt it!

Now can we find a Northern league version of Dobber or Hogan.

Billy played both Linghans at an young age if this lad Lucca Murphy has not gone throw him in and have a look at Cunningham too I say! Why or why was that not done in the FA trophy?

Why 3 months? Some fans gave Money 3 weeks.

Great comparison ! Will Hignett become the modern day Billy Horner?

He can't be a modern day Billy Horner unless he takes the lads down to Twins after doing whatever they did till 11 o'clock before going to Twins. And unless he tells the likes of me not to be so fucking daft, like he did when I suggested we might beat Leeds in THAT match.

Poolies knew where they were when Billy was manager. About 16th in the Fourth Division as a rule. Won more than we lost at home though.

Don't get me wrong. I have a lot of respect for Billy Hogner, who is a fully paid up member of the Pantheon of Pools legends as far as I'm concerned. The Twins stories are true but they are a demonstration of the bloke's solidarity with the players. It's not like he was encouraging them to get pissed out of their minds. It was all very low key.

My comments were a bit tongue in cheek. 'Hartlepool United manager Billy Horner' felt so permanent it might have been carved in stone, the players were mostly local lads and hard as nails and they almost never threw in the towel (0-5 home to Crewe does come to mind...) but the ground was a tip, there were a couple of re-election applications and 'investment' was an alien concept.

I always knew Dobber would go on to play for Pools.
Was class when we used to have kick about on Clavering field.
Quite a few hartlepool lads went on to play for Pools back in the 80s.
Do our scouts know how to get to grayfields or the rec.
There must be some talent there!

Agree with all the comments about Billy getting some fight into his teams and it started with a strong spine Graeme Richardson, Ayre Hogan Newton - good enough for me!

Then his 'tanner ball' players: Nigel Walker, Mark Lawrence and Paul Bielby

Craig needs to get that strong spine it is ...........

Loach

Raynes

Situation vacant in centre mid

Kum By Ya, the new striker fella or whatever he is called!

A guy I work with is involved with a very good amateur side in the North East and he said the talent in the Teesside area at the moment is class, also said Pools scouting is pathetic and lazy, which very much make sense.

I'm not on about the scenery. The bogs on the Millhouse side were disgusting back in the day- swimming in piss most of the time because the drains were always blocked. These days they don't stink, the taps work and there's even soap!

Fings ain't wot they used to be? The only reason we didn't finish up non-league decades ago was all those successful re-election applications.

It is 100% nailed on that Craig Hignett will turn Pools season around - as long as he has learnt lessons from the dubious exercise of making unnecessary substitutions purely to run the clock down. 'In Higgy We Trust'.

Is that even soap in them green containers?, I use it but it is really thin like water, I like a viscous liquid

Yes i remember the old bogs you needed a canoe to get in humming the tune to Hawaii five O
But the Mill House side is still badly presented and maintained with bad catering, bar etc etc i think the Leaders/CEO etc need to spend some time over there.
Oh "how awful" i can hear the cry!

Either a 1-1 Draw today or a loss unfortunately, Our confidence is rock bottom like Braintree in the league but they had a good result last Saturday 4 nil against Barnet so I imagine they will take this game to us.
