Can anyone remember there being 'sack the board' type protests along Lancaster Road?

It might be an age thing but I'm pretty sure that I can remember some short but lively protests way back in the days of Vince Barker and, possibly, John Smart.

Anyone have any recollections of anything like this? Or am I dreaming it up!

Sorry Mr H, I do.

I'm pretty sure that there was at least one 'player' protest (in fact I think there are photos of Mark Lawrence and Mark Robinson) over non-payment outside the old wooden stand - but I also thought that there had been some 'Barker Out' type protests.

No need to be sorry Brian , I just can't remember protests that's all , though it was a time of turmoil ( no change there then ) and the club looked like going under and the H.U.S.S group was formed. It was Clarence Road then?. I do remember the non payment thing, certainly made the news.

If you you tube Hartlepool v Rochdale 1983, it alludes to these problems. If you haven't already seen it , great watch as well.

1988/89, went to York and replaced by Moncur in Oct 88, and that worked out well didn't it

We started okay but then had a bad spell and the fans weren't happy, parallels with this season really, an opportunity came up elsewhere and he wisely took it.

I remember taking part in the Rink End protest after the 6-0 home defeat to Donny Rovers at the end of John Smart's reign.

Yes I took part in that protest behind the Rink End, lasted for a good half hour.

Only player not a disgrace that day was Rob Mckinnon and he came back out to huge applause during the protest.

Unbelievably weren't Doncaster bottom of the league at the time or have I made that up?

They were 2nd bottom I think we were bottom, we only had 9 points ny Christmas! Enter Sir Cyril. We used to swap to what end Pools were attacking but we stayed in the Town End that day so we could see some action 2nd half!!

Remember that one, wasn't that when the directors sat in the Rink End, and a group of fans surrounded them at the end of that game?.

It was before they had seats in. The directors had all scarpered before the final whistle I think.

That was the Gibson era, certain he seated the rink end and put the box in there to show the fans who was boss.

Can't remember a directors area in the Rink - but I do recall that the corporate area was a group of tractor seats over in the Mill House - and having to walk around to the area getting dogs abuse from those in the Rink. Mind I'm old enough to remember the directors box in the old wooden stand and the giant tea urn downstairs from it - and it never seemed to get hot.

Quiz question;

According to the plaque on the front of the directors box when it was in The Rink End, what was the stand officially called after it got seats in? We used to sit next to it they went in for the season 92/93 when we beat Palace in the cup.

No, I am not going to drag this out because being frank it’s not very interesting but it was actually called the ‘Golden Jubilee Stand’ which is why The Vic is called what it is as was Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee in 1908 (I have now googled this and it’s bollocks, Victoria’s Golden Jubilee was in 1887 she was long dead by 1908, I am guessing Garry Gibson didn’t have Google but the stand was called that!)

Well that was fun. Tried it and didn't get the 1983 match, but did get Pools 1- Rochdale 2 (1997), Pools 0- Rochdale 3 (2013) and Pools 1- Rochdale 2 (2016). The twice Pools did score they were both late consolation goals. We are even shitter than I remember! Cheers Horden :-)

Cheeky beggar - the Trimdons are in East Durham - woolly back country is anywhere the hilly side of the old Great North Road.

Great quick break and finish from Paul Staff for the second goal - one like that on Saturday please!

Duncan didn't last the proverbial 26 days as manager did he? Not counting the summer close down.

Sure its not classed as South West Durham? Yeah I suppose proper woolly backs come from Ferryhill, West Cornforth etc , but us on the coast classed anyone west of Wingate as a woolly back.

Duncan was there from 2nd April till 14th June , last game of season 14th May, so not far wrong.

That was the last ever game televised by SHOOT involving a North East club. Its last programme was the following week, last weekend of season , but featured games from outside of the North East
