Disgusting, I bet they don,t have a shortage of police in the posh areas of London. People will start taking the law into their own hands and who can blame /them.

It is disgusting, the ten don't have a chance when they are ferrying people backwards and forwards to Middlesbrough. Something has to change.

think you could substitute hartlepool for most northern towns of similar size. night is when the shit happens so what resources that they have should be moved due to this especially friday and saturday nights.

Very disappointed that this wasn't a film about the problems faced by the town's large contingent of gay officers.

But look at the positives! It's a great time to be a burglar, a drug dealer, a thug, a stereotypical chav etc...there's some great opportunities out there if you have the right attitude. That's what the Tory's are all about isn't it? Creating opportunity.

Just a thought given the council has over 52 million in the bank would it not be a good idea to spend some on the police to keep us safe after all it is our money.

If an away team brings more than 6 fans to Pools the place is instantly crawling with the law. confised
Best time to burgle is when Pools are at home as every copper in town is clearly at the match.

Home Office figures for police officers serving..

1980. 115,000.
1985. 120,000.
1990. 122,000.
1995. 122,000.
2000. 120,000.
2005. 140,000.
2010. 142,000.
2015. 122,000.
2018. 120,000.
Reading those figures, the police figures shot up under Blair but were coming down again to the pre Blair figures by the time the 2015 election came around and the figures now are roughly the same as they were prior to 2005. Where we short of police then?

Manipulation of statistics is a prerequisite of being in public office. It would be interesting to see the breakdown of geographical locations and police departments and how the definition of a police officer has changed.

PCSOs and admin clerks, down to fellas who code the computers are probably called police officers these days...

This. If the amount of coppers that is 'required' to uphold the peace between 300 kids and 27 Barnet fans on a Tuesday night is anything to go by, then we'll have to house the Met Police in the Grand Hotel for the weekend when Havant & Waterlooville visit.

Christ, why don't we raise the council tax again and get them all a suite?

I despair. These car alarms will now become an absolute necessity

Population of the UK in 2000 - 58.9 million.
Population of the UK in 2018 - 66.5 million.

The population has gone up nearly 13% while police numbers have been coming down sharply since 2010.

I'd say it's an open and shut case that we need more coppers, unless someone is prepared to argue that there were too many in 2000. Convicted criminals from 2000 would probably agree with that...
