Look at the clip of the threads at the top of the once great Bunker right now, the worst thread in its history prominent in monkeybutts woeful time warp copy and paste ‘joke’ thread, the one about bread, and the one about pies, and now this one (which will no doubt surpass all of them) FFS it’s great Pools are winning and doing a bit better but Jesus how many of the better posters over the years don’t really bother anymore?

Message boards like this one used to be fun, interesting and discursive. They are now enjoyed by half a dozen attention seeking fuckwits. One by one these duckwots realise there's more to life and bid them farewell.....

Like most forums they always tend to be a bit quiet when your team is winning.

It's not just this site, every message board on the planet has reduced in usage due to the availability of a variety of other forms of social media. The glory days of the 90's and 00's were prior to the dominance of Facebook, twitter and the like. Go back to the original bulletin boards and they were the only form of discussion group apart from the even more obscure usenet groups. Add to that the main protagonist of those days are all now middle aged or older and have usually found other things to do whereas the younger groups gravitate towards Facebook.

You would also have to observe that all of the groups add up to a far fewer number of people that was the case back in the day. In most cases you find the same characters posting on Facebook plus one other message board. Finally the interboard arguments have undoubtedly turned some people off and being physically attacked for the same reason has exacerbated this.

All social media is less 'social' than it used to be.

I've left a few Facebook groups because the balance has tipped from polite, funny, friendly discussions and banter to nasty, bullying childish shit when the ignorant arseholes acheive a critical mass.

It's like being a regular in a nice pub where the cokeheads start increasing in number and it turns to ratshit.

It's hard to believe that in the early days of the message boards, you didn't even have to register. People were so civil that they didn't even post under other usernames even when they could have done.

I think people with a bit of shall we say maturity have always recognized the likes of Facebook as a bit of a fad. This has been going on long enough for certain immatures to have joined the ranks of the matures (nothing new there; it's a generational thing).
That doesn't excuse people starting blatantly arrogant threads like this one. If you want quality discourse, choose an appropriate arena.

I’m not sure what’s ‘arrogant’ about this thread I think I am making a fair point, you don’t have to agree with me but this board for me is dominated by puerile ‘banter’ when it used to be at times interesting and genuinely funny, and it’s an absolute fact that loads of good contributors don’t bother anymore I was just wondering why and people have came back with some solid reasons. If you think me saying a thread were 99% of the posts are the same bloke copy and pasting jokes straight off Google is tedious is arrogance then so be it. I have nothing against anyone on here but it just struck looking at the threads at the top of the board the other day.

Your response given you are moderator is an example of the trend, narky with little substance punctuated by a personal dig. It’s not what it used to be that’s all, it has no effect on my life. I think some good points have been made about social media and Internet forums in general having had there day a bit, I personally can’t stand Facebook really I am on out because everyone else and it can be a useful tool to contact people on but it staggers me what some people willingly share with the World about themselves. Twitter has its moments but can be awful as well. Maybe I just don’t like change.

Iv'e kept all the screen shots of you asking me to banned from Rivals.. all 50 of them..all ignored.

Nearly all messageboards are crap these days. I go on a few and theres probably only one I visit where theres very little bitching going on.
Most the others, including Uncovered, have a handful of posters whos point of view is gospel and have time on their hands to dissect any post they dont agree with and rip it to shreds with their "correct" point of view.
The Bunker is one of the better places to visit out of the ones I go on. Apart from the occasional spat with PJ over Singh, the banter I have with people on here is quite good,even with PJ.

When I first moved abroad I used to find the Bunker was a sanity saving link back to normality. Maybe you're just a bit lonely so your expectations of Monkeybutt are too high?

On the other hand, everything really is much more shite than it was. The world has been getting steadily worse since the first Killing Joke album so why would The Bunker be exempt?
