told me tonight 1/ Pools have the worst ever F.A.Cup record of any team that played at football league level or above. 2/ We have the record for the longest run at football league level or above of not scoring a goal. 3/ Also we are the only team at football league level or above ever to concede 3 hat-tricks in one game. Well the only one I can recall was the 20 odd hours of not scoring ( If I remember correctly we finally got a goal at Blackpool? If so was it Andy Savage anyone) during Gary Gibsons time? BTW he was not having a go just simply talking football. He is working up here for a few months on a building contract and we got chatting. But was he correct?

Sure at one point we conceded the fastest goal! Might have been away at Aldershot!

I think we were the last team to have someone sent off without a red card and the first team to have a player sent off with one.

If my memory serves me right.

It was January to March 1993, 1227 minutes (20 hrs 45 mins). You are correct, we finally broke the hoodoo at Blackpool, the scorer was Andy Saville. It was the first goal we had scored since Saville scored the penalty which knocked Crystal Palace out of the FA Cup on 2 January 1993!!!

Wrexham 10-1 March 1962, Davies, Barnes, Ambler hat tricks, not sure if we're the only club to have had that happen to them though , obviously a team has to score 9 at least, so its a tall order.

I can believe the FA Cup one, going from memory but I don't think we've ever been beyond the 4th round - there's been plenty of teams from non-league do better than that, and it wouldn't surprise me if we're the only team that in its time in the FL hasn't got at least to the 5th round, ignoring one or two that have only played FL for a short time....

We have never won a title either, think only Crewe out of the established football league teams can say the same.

We must have by far the worst record in that paint pot cup competition of all the clubs who've played in it too. Carling/League Cup as well, don't think we've been past the 4th round in that (1974/75).

The way I look at it now that's plenty of records to 'better' in the coming seasons then......onwards and upwards.

He's chatting shite, as the yoof say, the hat trick one, Man City 10 - 'uddersfield 1 had three separate hat-ricks, and the rest of its dogshite, we are joint with Coventry with the goal scoring one for instance

Blackpool is a shite hole with a shite team and you should have punched him squarely on the nose

hth etc etc

Northern Semi Final v Preston in late 80s was about as good as it got in the Mickey Mouse Cup, that has had about 25 names in its history

The most important stat of the lot is that we are still here. Despite all of the problems, all of the defeats and valiant displays, all of the encounters with crooked chairmen, we are still going and still fighting. Never say die!

TZ, your mate quoted those facts from the "Hartlepool United Documentary" which followed Hartleblue's link on "Unbelievable memories".

Incidentally, many thanks for posting that link Mr H; a touching combination of joy and sadness.

Wasn't it a northern semi final a few years ago when we played Morecambe in the pissing rain, lost on penalties i think, would have had a good chance that year, all the bigger clubs lost on the same night i seem to remember.

Just checked, northern quarter final.

That's the Flat Earther outed. 'Asking for a friend' because obviously, no proper Poolie would want to dwell on the club's all-time footballing lows.

I was there. I remember the mayhem in the away end. Think there was a photo on the wall in the Corner Flag of the goal celebrations. I was at the one of the previous games too when we thought we were going to end the drought but Saville had his pen saved. The keeper probably watched his pen vs Nigel Martyn on telly.

I seem to remember not so long ago we knocked two premier league teams out of various cups in the same season. Then went on to dodge relegation by the thickness of a Chris Turner pubic hair.

Think the previous game you refer to was at Chester. I was at that one but not Blackpool

Stoke with Baby David scoring can’t think of other one yet
