Anyone hear Chris Waddle bubbling on 5live? I think it’s just because he doesn’t fancy, if any England’s games went to a shoot out, he would have to try and say penalties instead of PELANTIES

Slightly flawed when we already have won on penalties!

I think you can see how much it means to loads of the ex England players, Lineker was emotional the other day when they showed the footage of Bobby Robson and Wright, Gary Neville and Lee Dixon were going mad when we beat Columbia. It sort of puts to bed for good drivel about England players not caring and even bigger horse shit about lacking ‘passion’. Waddle cares about England, have a dig about for his rant after we lost to Iceland

"Next we'll be building a team for....Timbuktu!"

Class  His rants after the World Cup exits in 2010 and 2014 were pretty good, too.

Paradoxically this passion in the players becomes apparent at a time when just a few weeks ago the apathy among some supporters was at a height, the "I didn't know if they were playing threads" being displayed on this very board.

For somebody who has been around The Bunker for many years, surely you must know that "I didn't even know they were playing" has been a major Bunker catchphrase for at least a decade? Plus, why does it go hand-in-hand that Pools supporters would follow, or even care about, England?? sctatchinghead

I think most people on here probably do follow England but it’s been difficult not to feel apathetic because they’ve been pretty dire and hard to feel much affinity with. Until recently of course!

You couldn't beat Angela Rippon for valiantly attempting to pronounce names the native way. I think Not the 9 O'Clock News even did a skit on it.
One of my favourites, although probably pre-Rippon, was the Nigerian PM, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa. Reminds me of that song about Abdul Abulbul Ameer and Ivan Skavisnky Skvar.

He was also the General Secretary of the Nigerian Mine-workers Union who visited South Wales on an exchange trip........the rest is history.
