Bought a cordless vacuum in January but the battery packed in.
Took it back to Currys and they said i would have to deal direct with the manufacturer Vax to resolve the issue.
I went ballistic and he said he would ring Vax on my behalf but i would have to speak to them which i did and they agreed to send me a new battery in the post.
However it was always my understanding that the retailer had to deal with the issue........can anyone advise on this please?

It just made me think why this i was told this and what the issue was. Could it be that the stock is not Currys and Vax were renting space in the shop with Currys taking a rent or some kind of commission on each unit sold?? Is this the model you see in some of the large dept stores?

According to the Money Saving Expert site, it's up to Currys to sort it out but they're just one of a number that try it on....

"When returning items, beware shops trying the oldest trick in the book: saying they're not responsible for the shoddy goods and you must call the manufacturer. This is total nonsense!

If a company fobs you off by saying "go to the maker instead", it's wrong. It's the retailer's job to sort it.

It doesn't matter if it's an iPod from a high street shop or a designer frock from a department store. If something's broken, torn, ripped or faulty, the seller has a legal duty to put it right as your contract is with it."

Can't answer your questions, but I bought a Hoover mini vac thingy, and on the bottom there is a sticker that says if you are having problems DON'T go back to where you bought it, contact them direct. First time I've seen anything like that.

Thanks Mr Unreliable for the link and i have copied and pasted the relevant section below for all to see.

"Know who's responsible
Can you prove it?

So given Martin Lewis is normally right on these matters why are the staff of Currys told told to point you in the direction of the manufacturers............i smell a rat

The internet of things means that more and more manufacturers are putting in a diagnostic chip in hoovers and washers. They can access it to check what is wrong but they don't want to share access with the likes of Currys because they also gather data on how stuff is used etc.

It also means that they can do repairs more easily than anybody else. None of which makes any difference to the shop's legal responsibility to sort it out if you insist.

Apologies i seem to have repeated Mr Unreliables comments.

However i have used a platform on the Money Saving Expert site called "Resolver" that takes your complains and packages them in a way that sends an e mail to the retailer with your complaint and then automatically follows it up. Lets see what they come back with!

You bought it off Curry's, so in my world your contract is with Currys.
Don't accept a repair, you want it replacing. The goods are obviously not of merchantable quality.

The problem is when faced with such a statement from the staff is what do you actually do. You can argue citing legislation / create a scene etc but they are trained on what to say and if they are going to keep their job they have to stick to the company position.
Therefore at the time you are powerless and can only go along with what they say in the hope it gives a resolution to your problem and complain later. However that is not the point as these organisations knowingly flout legislation yet get away with it.
I certainly will never buy anything from them again.

Why don't Currys fix the Bunker issue where old folk think you have to double click everything.

Curry's will soon be dead like the rest of the high street retailers, that'll teach them.
