Either the police over there are doing a cracking job or the media are being well controlled by the state but I've not heard of any trouble during the world cup so far. I think that was one of the biggest fears. Maybe we worry too much and we shouldn't be so concerned that Qatar is really that hot?

It won’t be in November when the World Cup starts here, probably cooler than Russia is now.

I was saying it months before it’s a fucking nonsense our press terrifying people with absurd scare stories. Remember everyone was going to get car jacked then murdered in South Africa and then mugged and stabbed in Brazil the reality is you will never visit a country at a safer time than during a World Cup.

I can’t wait for the Panorama scare documentaries about Qatar. I already read Henry Winter having a Twitter exchange telling us that FIFA will have keep people safe when some bloke he was replying to reckoned Gay people were going to get arrested here or worse. It’s comical. I look forward to the day we finally do get a World Cup and they will have to run scare stories about the UK and how the World Cup is in danger of being robbed by a moped gang or killed by terroists warning people to stay at home and not go near the World Cup as they’d have you believing it’s a very scary place.

I'm a Russian resident (until next Thursday that is), and it was always going to be as safe as houses. Putin was never going to let the ultras show him up on the world stage. A lot of the leaders of the firms were getting random visits from the FSB months before the World Cup started, being made to go into police stations and register on weekends etc. just to intimidate them. Even the 'King of Thieves' in Moscow was pulled in and told if there was an increase in theft over the course of the tournament he himself would be held personally responsible. The Russian state has a bigger gang of thugs than any of them. By and large, your average Russian loves the English. I was at the Moscow fanpark on Sunday for the England game wearing the blue Italia 90 shirt and carrying a St George's Cross. The locals all wanted photos with me. It was great fun.

I heard that Qatar is the 16th safest place in the world but the prospect of being shit on by a camel has convinced me to stay at home.

Has there been much hype over the current World Cup in Qatar PJ?

I believe the term he was reported as using was not seeing their families again. Always a positive motivation. Also the cheapest.

After their 6-1 defeat to England they want to shut their mouths.

Yes a fair bit, they have fan zones all over we went to one last week and it was really good and quite busy. They are trying to give a taste of what they will be like in four years but it was great loads to do for the kids and I had a go at being a virtual reality keeper but made Jan Budtz look like Gordon Banks. Also the interest in the game that was on at the time Morocco v Portugal was massive I reckon a good few thousand watching the big screen.

It’s hard to avoid to be honest 7 of the 8 stadiums are within half an hours drive of my door and the other one is only about 45 minutes away you could conceivably attend every game in the first couple of weeks if you wanted to. The scale of the infrastructure projects including roads and building a subway is bonkers, I think I read that all in they are spending about £500 million a week currently

That's the sort of life you can have if you're a positive, decent human being that isn't pissed on cheap booze and motivated by a deep-seated bitterness that eats at your soul like a cancer.
