The headline on the Mail Sports page today is about Bates saying that Pools overachieved this season.
But reading the interview, Bates doesn't actually say that they overachieved, just that he's proud of finishing 8 points ahead of relegation. Very odd.

They did overachieve considering who was manager for most of it.

I saw someone criticise Bates for article elsewhere but they'd obviously not read past the misleading headline.
I'd say Bates has overachieved given he's only had 12/13 first time players to pick from most of the time. Saturday was the strongest squad he's had to choose from but even then there was still 3 youngsters on the bench.

I meant that it was odd that the Mail chose to lead with a headline about Bates saying something that he didn’t actually say.
