Dad and me had a walk out for a spot of lunch. £8.99 Special for 2 mains. Dad had Gammon, Eggs, chips and peas (9/10) . I had smothered chicken, salad, coleslaw, chips and garlic bread (8/10) [chicken was small]. All in all not bad value for money. However the full price was over£9 each!!! Wouldn't have paid that. What got me though was the drinks, Tetleys Smooth £3.20 and San Miguel £4 a pint? Turned a cheap meal into a more pricey one. On the plus side dad got a desert for £1.99. Warm chocolate Brownie with ice cream 9/10.

Going rate for drinks these days like. Saying that Sam Smith pubs must be one of the only chains around serving sub £2 pints.

I think we were in a Brewsters. I can understand the San Miguel Price, but the Tetleys when I drink John Smiths Smooth for £2.60 a pint in my local. I think its due to the fact its one of those chains that encourages parents to bring their kids to the play area, have a meal and charge the parents a fortune for the drinks!

I'm going to London next month on a night out. I've already spent £80 on train tickets, but I suspect I'll do well to spend that much on beer for the night. Cheapest part was the air bnb!

£80? Could be a very early night for you.

Think even Sam Smiths are £2 a pint now, don't blame them, they were giving it away in relation to what others are charging. Sam Smiths are a strange brewery , with seemingly no pattern to where they open pubs. They will have 2 pubs in Durham but none in Hartlepool or Sunderland etc. Great prices though and their pubs tend to be traditional corner end types , with wooden interiors and sometimes a real fire , all the things I like in a pub.

The most important thing I like to see in a pub is well kept real ale.

Sweeping statement, to some it might to others not. It only helps you relax if you are not relaxed already, only takes problems away if you have any in the first place and as for awkward social occasions, well I may give you that one, but its questionable.

The three swans and cygnet, or whatever it's called in Durham was the only place I got two drinks for £3 when me and the mrs were there on a couple of weeks ago. Saying that we had to put up with a load of jocks farting eggy farts like so kinda evened things out a bit.

Prefer Kings arms York to the Swan & three cygnets as Samuel Smiths pubs go.

The Half Moon Durham was serving a very good White Gold from Durham Brewery last week and the Double Maxim in the Market Tavern was canny.

Whats the name of the Sam Smiths pub in York(if still open) next to the river, used to have old photo's of people (in boats)getting drinks from the upstairs window! Had marks on the wall where the water levels had been.
