Funny that; just as the transfer window closes. I thought we were told they had enough to cover the bills that were due? Surely the transfer fees alone could have covered this bill. So they've not only refused to put any money into the club, but they've also pocked anything that's came into the club.

I said right at the start of the fundraising campaign that they'd take the money and run. Looks like that's exactly what they've done. Such a shame for all those who gave in good faith.

I can't go into any detail but there is a chink of light elsewhere. Don't press me because I can't say more.

They have took our eyes out and have returned time and again for the sockets.
How ever angry we are the only option we have at present is just let time take its course.

If the JustGiving fund pays this, it still achieves the same goal - buys time for the club not to be in admin/liquidated and any potential deals to go through.

As Ken Hodcroft said though - this must be a PAYE bill because the wage bill is so big. "The VAT isn't a large amount, and the club doesn't make a profit so there is no Corporation Tax". Only leaves PAYE. Pam, Watson, Coxall, Jones, 29 players, all the backroom staff - that's a lot of PAYE tax.

So our esteemed and experienced accountant has decided not to pay the tax bill. This 'forces' half the Just Giving money to be paid to HMRC. I think I'm getting a little cynical.

In fact Rachel has confirmed she is going to pay the bill with the fund. I think it's fair enough on her part - well done Rachel- but absolutely shocking from our so-called 'owners'.

How can you be allowed to continue running a business when the general public are paying your tax bill?

I wonder how much of the PAYE bill is for the tax on the inflated salary of our Chief Executive. No news of her taking a salary holiday whilst issues are resolved I suppose.

One of the problems with this though is that HMRC have issued this not because we have a bill coming due, but presumably because they are already owed this money.... also because the process is now underway, it's not just pay the bill and it goes away, it will still have to reach court in order to be dismissed at the very least. Meanwhile, should other creditors join the petition then the amount needed to dismiss it will go upwards, and all that money that Rachel and others have worked so hard to raise could easily not be enough.....

I hope she can pay it and it will buy us a bit more time to allow the chink that John mentions above to develop.

Not sure on the legalities but I reckon HMRC aren't bothered as long as someone pays it.

How do they intend to pay the wage bill in February ? I wont be donating any more money to the club and I am sure many other fans feel the same. Especially when we are getting zilch back from the club in terms of what is going on and the people running the club are only turning up for work once a week and they cant even sack a manager who hasn't won a game this year . If they cant even be bothered putting out a statement in plain English why should we bother !

The only time the Club have ever communicated with the supporters is when they want our money, or anybody's money. For god sake just give us your fucking money, empty your piggy banks kids, look down the back of the sofa grandma. All they need is a dishevelled Bob Geldof pleading on the website.

Because this is a football club there is a lot of sentimental value attached how ever the same rules still apply,there is no sentiment in business

Forgetting about the Fund money, surely the extra cash brought in on the last home game and player sales should more than cover this tax bill.

When we were kids on Seaton beach we used to build huge walls with driftwood and rocks etc near the Staincliff to keep the tide out repairing it with sand and holding out as long as we could till the inevitable and we had to beat a retreat with wet shoes and socks. This feels very similar

Even digging some channels to divert the tide never worked for long.

I'd love to call Sage's bluff. They've not paid the tax bill forcing us to use the Just Giving money. Wouldn't be surprised if they realise that people are increasingly uncomfortable about giving them money (I know we aren't technically giving them it, using a solicitor etc.)

For balance, I could be completely wrong and by paying it, it genuinely buys time for a consortium to come in, or something that Mr I alluded to. Who knows?! Weirdly I've stopped stressing about it. I trust the Trust to do its best and we'll take it from there.

For all we know the club could have been ready to this £48k or whatever and then when this fund got set up, that £48k could have been 'moved' elsewhere with the club knowing the fans would pay it.

I understand that HMRC are fairly hot on football clubs these days but I’d think this is a relatively old debt. Even if it is December’s PAYE bill which would have been due 19th Jan (and I think that’s very unlikely to have got to the stage of a winding up order given that is would be just two weeks late), January’s PAYE bill will be due 19th Feb, presumably for a similar amount. But this could be say November’s or even earlier meaning even when this is amount is paid, they could still owe twice this amount. Or more. Normal businesses usually get LOTS of warnings to pay for a few months before it gets anywhere near issuing a winding up order.
If it is PAYE and not VAT, you have until 7th of the month to pay that so depending on how the vat periods fall, that could be payable too on 7th Feb. If not Feb, there will be one due either 7th March or 7th April.
I work in an accountants so just thought I’d share my experiences of HMRC. I obviously don’t know for sure but I think this £48000 will be a relatively old debt and the amount actually owed to them will be a lot higher, certainly more than what will be left in the Just Giving fund once this has been paid.
I hope there is something in Mr I’s chink of light because this really does look like the beginning of the end to me.

Before this gets cut and pasted anywhere, this is all just my personal opinion. I don’t claim to know it all, just my take from my dealings with HMRC in my job.

Meanwhile our local press try to kill the story... Really Liam? You should be doing better than this. In the first place no one said it had been served, just issued. Secondly rather than dig deeper you try to rubbish the story. Very disappointing but this sort of Lord Haw Haw behaviour is exactly the reason why Coxberg got away with so much for so long.

After reading this thread, I have just searched the above national database of winding up petitions.

The forth one for £48k is listed and was issued yesterday.

The local press need to do their jobs. If you're a journalist, why not pay the small fee and search the records. It took me less than a min.

Or if you're not very good at computers, which as he's a tweeter, I doubt. Why not search the central registry of winding up petitions via telephone?

The search won't state whether a Petition has been served but for it to get to issued, HUFC would likely have had demands for payment (often a stat demand), which they haven't dealt with.

The fact is, it has been issued.

It still makes me livid.

Just for the economically challenged like myself ... what's the difference between being issued and being served?

Issued means that its been submitted to the High Court by the plaintiff (HMRC), its been through the system and has been issued for a hearing to wind up the company. Served means that a copy has been legally handed over to the company. Usually by a Bailiff.
