...would it be better to encourage more fans on here by not having to login to read it?

Enough accusations have been levelled at this forum in the past, and it just gives people more ammunition.

I think we should be encouraging as many fans as possible onto here to stop all the 'us and them' bullshit. If people act like doyles and are abusive etc then ban them, but I really think we could benefit from being more open.

I agree with that. Whatever a few don't like this is an excellent place to get news and prope debates about Pools

Why can't it just carry on as normal?

Beat me to it as I am also concerned with the initial Admin comments / actions which feels like an insular local forum for local people.

Call me old fashioned but I think a message board should be as open as possible, read by as many as possible and only policed when offensive posts or offensive posters need dealing with.

Hope there is a review of policy!

Maybe the admin is a freemason, will the bunker adopt a daft handshake?

Unity? I haven't seen too much unity towards Mr I from other groups.

Is the board being open to all the general preference?

In the spirit of openness I'd prefer it if you didn't have to log on. But I would understand if it was kept log on only as I would not like the job of being Admin and have to control the rarfery that goes on.

Remember I do not 'own' anything. the setup is one that is agreed between the users.

One benefit of opening it up is more rumours. You just can’t get enough rumours.

I think this place is pretty good at self policing though - loads of evidence of that this week. The screen shot thing is only a couple of people agitating and to be fair, they were put in their place on Facebook so all is not lost there either.

Can admin ban terrible spelling though? I don’t mean the odd typo, I mean really poor, incessantly bad spelling. Got to be some standards. ;)

Some of the stuff being written about him is so bad its beyond appalling. Some from people who have never met him and others that are old enough to know better. I fully expect a rewriing of history soon as well.

Keep it as it is....you don't have to log on all the time if you are a bona fide member!!!!

Also....it makes me laugh when people are crying that they can't read The Bunker....the ones that slag it off daily and swear to God that they don't read it anyway!!!!

Nah, f#ck email. Much prefer it like this. Nobody is prevented from joining and debating if they're genuine. Mind you, I haven't left the house in seven years and I shoot strangers.

We'll end up as a village of the damned if we put up the shutters. It'll become self serving and stifle debate, then eventually become a backwater. Without a diversity of views, no matter how unpalatable they may be, this place will lose what made it what it is and for what?
Carry on the tradition of debate or become an isolated self congratulatory, back slapping cosy world for the elite.

Last time the Bunker locked the door, three or four years back, it didn't last that long but it did succeed in restoring a bit of order when things were getting silly.
I imagine it's not going to last forever this time either. Someone has set new posters to be auto-modded for their first so-many posts, which seems a reasonable move to me. I've had about 10 to approve so far and passed them all fit for bunker consumption. That doesn't mean I think they're ellish, just that they don't appear to be rarfs or attempting to undermine the Bunker.

Open it up for me. I know when I go on other clubs message boards to see what’s going on and to get other views on say a recent game if I have to go through the whole joining process to be able to make a comment I rarely bother.
It may be that some visitors come here with alternate views on games or advice regarding trusts, administration or any thing really that could be relevant or even valuable.
I feel that if it remains read-only it will slowly die.
Any extreme rarfery can be dealt with as and when it occurs.

I am for opening it to all-comers. I like a bit of controversy me.

But why not have a poll of the current members to test the water?

Can't let grief from people on other message boards dictate it being a closed forum. Agree with moderating people and removing if necessary. Always going to get people with different outlooks on how the club should be run etc etc but that's life, generally it makes for a healthy debate.

As Chairman Mao said during a brief flirtation with democracy, "Let a hundred flowers bloom."

Having opened things up he then hunted down and killed anybody who came up with flowers he didn't like but it's still a great saying.

Keep it closed for a few months or until whenever Pools win a game, whichever comes first.

Locking the gates only makes a mockery of the board. It's the message board equivalent of putting your fingers in your ears, closing your eyes and singing loudly, it means you can't cope.
So start coping and carry on, or hide.
