Going next month for 2 nights.. Anyone been?

I've been told not to spend too much time in Temple Bar as it's stupidly priced and full of hen/stag partys. Doing the Guiness tour... any other recommendations?

I live in Dublin and would recommend you stay away from Temple bar. Massively overpriced and its expensive already. Drop me a PM and I can give you a few recommendations of where to go.

No tips at the moment but the galway races in august are great fun if you have stamina and a few quid to waste

The whole city is a tourist trap. You're gonna get ripped off but as a Pools fan it'll be second nature.

Not sure about waterford. Might as well go to seaham. Cork is ok if you dont get involved in any sort of debate with a corkman. Roy keane is typical of the breed, and i can say that with confidence as my closest friend is indeed a cork fella. Ask them about tha abcd logic. Ah, but cork's different!

I find Cork most agreeable and as as for Waterford, stopped down the road at Dunmore East and had no problem at all with the place. I tend to avoid getting into debates of any sort when I visit places, you’re on their turf.
What about Kilkenny or Clonmel?

Nothing in clonmel bar the magners cider brewery. Kilkenny lovely place, very lively indeed around the time of their arts festival.

Well we've agreed on Kilkenny, but the Magnets brewery is impressive.

Ha'penny Bridge Inn is a favourite of ours, nice and simple pub, right next to the famous bridge. Guinness is 200% better just about everywhere, as the brewery look after all the lines in the Dublin pubs, or so I was told.

I Lived in Dublin for a few years and head back regularly, so many great pubs. My favourite is Keogh's in Anne St South, right next to my favourite restaurant, Gotham Cafe. If you like duck try their Chinatown pizza (based on crispy duck pancakes) check them out on trip advisor. Other pubs I would recommend, Neary's and also McDaids, both near Keogh's, just off Grafton Street which is the main shopping area if the missus is with you. I have spent many happy hours in the little snug in Keogh's while the missus amuses herself at the shops. Enjoy, it is a great place even if the pints are a bit on the dear side.

When people ask this question, its difficult to answer unless people state what it is they are looking for. I like traditional pubs that serve real ale, but you will struggle to find real ale in Dublin. Traditional pubs though that give you a flavour of what Dublin is/used to be about are as stated above, Kehoe's and Palace Bar, Mulligans, John Kavanagh's were my favourites.

Other bars worth a visit are Brazen Head, Stags Head and Porterhouse.

Dublin has become a bit too touristy for my liking, and prices reflect that, think Newcastle, Temple Bar, think Bigg Market, dirty, sleazy, hotel prices. As with all big cities, a fifteen minute walk in any direction and you will find yourself in a back street gem paying more realistic prices.

All good pubs Mr Horden. And I stand corrected on the spelling of Kehoe's, you would think as my favourite pub I would know how to spell it. Cheers

Dublin is expensive. We stayed about 10 years ago in a little Hotel above a row of shops just behind (I think O'connell street). There was a great little pub (decent price) over the road. Dublin didn't like the beer (can't remember the name), so drank Guinness or Bud(seemed to be on tap everywhere).

As for sights get the 24 hour bus tour ticket, where you can get on and off at any stop which is near an attraction. (We used ours for 3 days and got caught on the last day by the driver who sold em to us, ERGO she got a good tip. The Jail was good, Jamesons, Guinness Brewery etc all worth a look.
