I'm off to a quiz tonight where we all have to set 10 questions for each other. Thought I'd try out mine here first; I've gone for a cryptic music quiz, as my lad is currently obsessed with watching '80s editions of TOTP on iPlayer.

Big in the ‘80s

Gothic medicine (3,4)
Greek confectionary (4)
Sad Cleric (6,4)
Salford Boys (3,6)
Festive Smashy and Nicey (4,3)
One became a playwright’s sibling (10)
China (3,7)
Out of fun league (3,5)
Once a small time boy (3,10)
Scots ramblers (3,11)

You've got 10 cryptic clues for '80s band names. Guess the bands.

I don't have time to ponder on this right now but if you could just change confectionary to the Oxford Dictionery spelling that would be lovely.

There's some right narky gadgies on here!

Anyway, here's what you've got right so far (edited for the pedant).

Gothic medicine (3,4) The Cure
Greek confectionery (4)
Sad Cleric (6,4) Deacon Blue
Salford Boys (3,6) The Smiths
Festive Smashy and Nicey (4,3)
One became a playwright’s sibling (10) Bananarama
China (3,7) Big Country
Out of fun league (3,5)
Once a small time boy (3,10) The Communards
Scots ramblers (3,11) The Proclaimers

Only 3 to go, and I thought 2 of those would be easy!

Out of fun league (3,5) New Order?

I'd say you've tidied up nicely there.

Yes I've been sat here all day trying to solve it.

Best thing is I'm off to a pub quiz tonight where we all have to set 10 questions for each other. Think I've got a head start.

Is the answer Madness? They were big in the eighties? Just coz if you take the 10 answers, take a letter from each, swap a few and get rid of a few, the answer is Madness. FACT, do I win a prize?

Did it go down as well in the pub as it did in here?
