Picked a cracking day for a 300 mile drive up from the south. 3 lane closure on m1 and then belted with snow on a19. I couldn't see much in front of me but there's some confident drivers out there!!

Had to a walk to the asda at dinner time, was a bit slippy on me feet but it didnt effect my self service abilities. No unexpected items in my bagging area.

I just walked to the car to check me phone and it was snowing. Quite a nice, light snow, decent laying qualities too. Looks very romantic.

9/10

The Metropolis has had a good dusting of snow a few times since late morning. Didn't dare use the ASDA or Morrisons self serve just in case the heavy snow affected the axis of the Flat Earth.

OK, there was nothing about flight cancellations on the news, so where's your Amsterdam report? Got to have been better than going to the Vic.

Judging by the lack of response, Mr H obviously wears Unhappy socks.

Just got back. Had a great time. shame I missed another home defeat, looks like Harrisons honeymoon period is definitely over. At any other club an FA Trophy exit and defeat v Dover would signal the end of his reign, but not at Pools.

Ate and drank more in 4 days than I have in the last month. Did lots of walking and cycling around different areas and parks of Amsterdam. Tended to eat and drink in De Pijp most of the time, little bit cheaper , not as touristy and tacky as the city centre area.

Went to see ADO Den Haag v FC Gronigen on Saturday evening. Standard was akin to watching say Millwall v Ipswich in the Championship. I say Millwall. as Den Haag fans are similar, a rough and ready bunch. Den Haag got beat 3-0 in a classic away smash and grab display by Gronigen. In Baltic conditions , had scarf , gloves on hood up the lot. First time I have been to a game on a bike. Cycled 5 miles from were my son lives to Central Station , locked the bike up, train to Den Haag and back, then back into De Pijp for a drink, then cycle back to were I was staying with 10 glasses of strong Belgian beer inside me.

Walking around Amsterdam you need eyes in back of your head , its more dangerous walking than cycling, you're looking out for bikes , trams, cars, all at the same time .A strange set up , but one that amazingly seems to work very well.

Another thing that amazed/shocked me, was how in a few years things have changed. It is practically a cashless society in Holland. You could have a million quid in your pocket and be totally fooked. You need a ticket for everything, barriers everywhere , with no ticket office staff on smaller stations, if you have no money in bank account or don't have their version of an Oystercard you are goosed in the suburbs.

Dutch lasses are nice , but the blokes over their are miserable Victor Meldrew types. One even pulled me and the lad up for whispering too loudly in the quiet coach. They call it the silent coach , and they literally mean SILENT.

Like a visit to any large city these days, you do think, how the hell do we get it so wrong in this country, in terms of housing, transport, street cleaning, dog shit etc. Where I was staying was 5 miles from the centre, clean and quiet, with a little shopping centre nearbywith a range of shops that wouldnt of looked out of place in one of our city centres.

My sister lives in The Hague Mr H. Strange place in many ways 70% ultra-posh and 30% poor and hard as nails. The Den Haag fans tend to come from the 30%. As far as I can work out the 70% play hockey and travel to watch Ajax if they decide to slum it at the football.

Also the only place I've ever been invited to an orgy while trying to buy some records.

It is totally different from Amsterdam, hardly any tourists, mostly local dutch people out shopping in a shopping area akin to Cheltenham in this country, very upmarket. Not many pubs either , except in the main square, or tacky shops or fast food , which is clearly deliberate.

After game we went to a station called Forepark, and most of Den Haag fans seemed to disappear in the opposite direction to the centre of Hague, so I'm guessing that is area were most of their support is based, like I say similar to Millwall, who probably after a game wouldn't go in the direction of the centre of London. The Ajax result kept flashing up on the scoreboard, they were struggling at FC Twente, and it seemed to go down well with Den Haag fans. Groningen only had about 300 fans there, you can see them behind goal on the left of the pic I posted , with about 100 ultras all sat together. Strange that everything is so close but don't travel in numbers, bit like Scotland.

Wish you had told me about that record shop earlier
