To be honest, being called a 'cockhead' by someone who thinks the earth is flat could be construed as a compliment.

One of the best documented methods for determining the Earth’s roundness was first performed (to our knowledge) by the ancient Greeks. This was achieved by comparing the shadows of sticks in different locations. When the sun was directly overhead in one place, the stick there cast no shadow. At the same time in a city around 500 miles north, the stick there did cast a shadow.

If the Earth were flat then both sticks should show the same shadow (or lack of) because they would be positioned at the same angle towards the sun. The ancient Greeks found the shadows were different because the Earth was curved and so the sticks were at different angles. They then used the difference in these angles to calculate the circumference of the Earth. They managed to get it to within 10% of the true value – not bad for around 250 BC.

Another piece of evidence for a globe is the difference between the night skies in the northern and southern hemispheres. The view is completely different because the Earth beneath you is pointing in a different direction. If the Earth were flat, the view should be the same. This can be made even easier by simply comparing when it is night and day in each country.

How the fuck is that proving anything, other than that he is touched, when you can sit quite safely on a flight at 40,000 feet and look out of the window and recognise things geographically.

Ok misterb2001 lets give it a go..........If you believe we live on a ball then an aircraft would need to navigate around the ball right? So next time you fly and are sat in your seat awaiting take off, lower the little table in front of you and place a pocket spirit level on it. It will show level. Now when the plane has reached cruising altitude place the spirit level back on the table....it will show level for the entire journey until the plane begins it's descent to land. If the earth was a ball and the plane remained level for say a 2,000 mile journey the maths say the plane would end up 500 miles into outer space as the earth fell away beneath it..... ( you know this curvature you all believe in ) the maths are 8 inches times the miles squared so for 2,000 miles this would be 8 x 2,000 =32 million inches which is over 500 miles. If the earth was a ball the only place the plane could be level would be parked on your fake north pole at all other times it would be nose up or nose down negotiating the curvature. You can not have it both ways ???

Surely if the Earth was round everyone in the Southern Hemisphere would fall off into outer space? Australians would be fucked, they would be constantly upside down? I’d love to see a documentary were loads of these flat Earthers are taken all over by various Scientists and other experts to be shown so they witness it with there own eyes why the flat Earth theory is utter implausible fantasy. It would make great watching to see what they came up with. They would obviously never do it as they’d lose subscribers to the YouTube channel and nobody would pay £180 for them to stand up and talk made up shite.

I'm not a particularly religious person myself but I think faith in a Deity is different from thinking the earth is flat, regarding Mr B's earlier post. The presence of a Deity has been neither proved or conclusively disproved. By way of contrast, it has been rather conclusively proved that the earth is not flat.
