...and I know the FIFA rankings were invented by a dislexic psycopath, but how the fuck do you get knocked out of the world cup at the qualifying stage after only beating teams like Albania, Israel, and Liechstenstein and still move above England who've been drawing with the likes of Germany and Brazil. I know those were only friendlies but in the competitive games we've beaten just as many duds as Italy have.
I'm not complaining but just trying to find some logic to it, however twisted.

FIFA rankings can be easily manipulated, italy lost standing in the rankings by not always taking a friendly slot in the available windows, if they had they would have had more points and wouldnt have ended up in a group with spain.

We slip down the rankings as we dont play many hard teams in qualifying so dont pick up decent points, and all of our friendlies are 'glamour' games to pay back the cost of wembley, in the last 18 months we've played germany 3 times, france, brazil, spain etc and probably havent even won so our ranking standards have took a hit.

FA dont care like, sold plent of shirts.

I agree that testing yourself against the best is needed, though it didnt help us very well preparing ourselves for the 2014 world cup or euros in 2016, but playing a few more 'medium' national teams would allow us to test ourselves and rack up fifa points so we can get in pot 1 at tournaments.

Should of played EL Salvador and Mauritania at Wembley instead of Germany and Brazil. Would of beat them both 2-0 and still got 60.000 through the gate. those draws have cost us

When we played Republic of Ireland in a friendly a few years ago, no matter what the result we would move down in the rankings. The ranking points are based on the previous 12 months so play a lower ranking team than the year before and you can't not lose points.

World rugby rankings are a whole lot simpler. If and only if you beat a team higher than you, your rating score goes up a bit and theirs goes down a bit. Seems too simple to be true.
