He got the full 90 in the F A Youth Cup last week, and he didn't look to me to be the best player on the pitch.

I think if he was to start six games in a row he would need to be scoring in every game, otherwise the fans would be on his back. I think we have lost one game in 12 and yet certain players get absolutely slaughtered week in week out on social media and on the terraces. Some like Hawkins are tough enough to take it, others historically have not been able to.

Some of our fans seem to take a perverse sense of pride at the number of young players whose careers they can ruin.

This. There's been some daft hype around Simpson in a few of the papers but he is clearly still learning the game. His time will come hopefully, but it's not now. When he misdirected his one chance with a header last night his Tranmere marker reached up and patted him on the face. Can think of a few like Bob Newton who would have nutted the twerp for that. Looking for the positives, I guess you can argue that Simpson has a good temperament for the modern game!

He looked okay to me, against Maidstone and Dagenham, then in true Hartlepool United fashion was dropped for the following game at Orient. Maybe that has knocked his confidence. I think he had it in him, I hope he still has. Notice he played for reserves last night and failed to score in 1-1 draw (won 6-5 on pens). Would expect him to bag a couple in a game such as this.

You are right about our fans, a good proportion who appear to be hysterical bipolar nutjobs. Featherstone seems to have come out of the other end of the tunnel after years of abuse, now Hawkins seems to have taken over the mantle of public enemy number 1.

[quote="Micky fisher ate my socks too"]A group of supporters in the town end close to me where shouting ‘hoof it forward’ within 60 seconds of kick off. I kid you not.
john beck and martin allen fans i suppose. if pools had a team of 6ft plus guys built like rugby players it could be a good tactic but can,t ever see that type of side playing for pools. good thing or bad i am not sure as it did work for those two plus wycombe .
