Didnt realise he had left darlo

Darlington goalkeeper Sam Russell has decided to leave the club after turning down the offer of a new contract.

The Quakers had tried to convince the 24-year-old to remain at The TFM Arena but Russell has opted to pursue a new challenge.

His decision will come as a blow to the League Two club as he made 31 league appearances last season.

After joining Darlington in a permanent deal from Middlesbrough in 2004, Russell made more than 100 appearances in total.

Darlington boss Dave Penney has strengthened his squad in recent days though, with Neil Austin and Rob Purdie joining The Quakers.
