As Yubep says The Sherlocks have played Hartlepool twice. I think 6 of their current 8 tour dates have sold out and they reached 6th in the album charts the other week.

They did a schools tour. Martine McCutcheon was in them.

The schools tour was about 10 years before you said you were at school though?

Chick Henderson who sang 'Begin the Beguine' for the Joe Loss Orchestra was from the Headland. Would probably have been a long-running star but was killed in the war when he was only 31. Elvis might remember him playing in the town.

Hold your horses. I think you'll find the appearances of Vesta Tilley and Happy Fanny Fields at The Empire Palace in Lynn Street in early 1910 beat the the ukulele bothering pervert to the punch by a few decades.

I'm guessing that Happy Fanny Fields was part of their programme of "high-class vaudeville".

Think Elvis was at Vesta Tilley but wasn't old enough to get in for Happy Fanny.

Ah yes I remember they had a whole string of hits. People use to queue up every time they released a new cylinder.

There was a guy who's family lived on The Cliff at Seaton who was involved with one of the big record labels. Think he was involved in the Never Say Die record, early 70's.Recall him setting up a gig in the Borough Hall featuring Groundhogs, Man & Help Yourself in (yet another) effort to "Save Hartlepool United".
Recall it being a decent gig, but I was nobbut a bairn meself, like !
