So we decide to play an international match 2 weeks into autumn in this country, and obviously, the ground is a bit soft.

Not on the wicket, oh no, thats fine, but the outfield.

And because of player safeety, despite it being a bright sunny day, the umpires, in agreement with the captains, have delayed the start until at least 2pm.

What a pathetic pack of w ankers.

Oh dont worry about the paying public, lets worry about the players getting damp socks.

The crowd should all just walk out and demand teir money back, and no one should turn up at any other game.

Player safety......................jesus wept, and this from players whose homeland is currently devastated.

Shameful pack of soft bastards.

You shouldn't let the lack of cricket get you down. Take up mindfulness. It's basically like watching county cricket without all the bat and ball business.

That's a fairly hysterical rant even by your standards, you are the Adrian Durham of The Bunker

It must have been pretty soaking, the outfield still looks boggy and slow (did you see the way the last ball of innings plugged?) now you can see the bowlers cleaning there boots before they come on to bowl. If it's unfit to play there's not a lot you can do about it and you can't play cricket of any quality when it's that wet. Have you ever tried to bowl with a wet cricket ball? You can't with any accuracy, it loses shape and it won't swing or seam. So yes the public want to watch cricket but they also want to watch cricket of a decent standard. Oh and there's clearly a safety issue as well, I wouldn't fancy the chance of slipping over as Chris Gayle twats a missile that could potentially kill me at me from about 20 yards away. What the has the Hurricanes in the Caribbean got to do with it either? It's solely down to the umpires these days, nothing to do with the players.

Ah PJ I have been expecting you.

I had the coverage on from noon. Half an hour before the scheduled start.

It was pathetic. The groundsman thought so, as did David Lloyd.

But PJ comes on and defends the poor cricket lambs, so all is ok.

I mentioned the Hurricane because Michael Holdong did, and said that good perfromance would give the locals a lift.

Little did he know that the players didnt fancy standing on soggy ground.

And its 11 days from October. What did anyone think the ground would be like.

The decision has nothing to do with the players.

The County Championship game at Derby saw no play at all today.

Cricket is always played at this time of year in England I don't think it's any wetter than it would be in May/June.

Errrr yes it did. Unless the discussions beween the umpires and the captains was in my imagination.

And regardless. People had paid to see a match. It was a bright sunny day. And the biggest area of concern was caused by the players in the warm up.

Does it really matter that it was a bit damp?

It is 100% down to the umpires, they will talk to the captains and keep them informed and captains are allowed an input but they have no say.

Does it really matter if a football pitch is a 'bit' frozen?

Does it really matter that the groundsman and the experts all suggested it should have started on time?

Are they all wrong and you are right?

What are you on about?

You were critical of the players when it's 100% the umpires decision. Most players just want to get out there and play, the umpires have player safety and whether the conditions are fit for International Cricket in mind. Do you know more than them? Of course the ground staff who will have worked hard to get the outfield fit for an on time start want a 50 over match and of course the TV want the same.
