How long before there's some sort of civil war instigated by the nazis? Can't believe the shit that's going on over there.

Are they protesting against 'tourists' or the unacceptable behaviour of some (and an ever increasing proportion of) tourists?

Maybe they don't charge London prices because the locals could simply never afford them: they're being paid peanuts and that's when they get a steady job at all. Everyday, unemployed young people from all over Spain are flocking to Barcelona in search of a better future and social tensions are definitely on the rise in the area.

Anti tourist graffiti is no big deal considering the dire situation of the young Spanish/ Catalan people. It's not just the tourists that find themselves in a no win situation.

Well of course you do make a positive contribution to the economy and people like you are probably saving the Spanish state from bankruptcy right now. But then it's a question of perception: many people in Barcelona feel their city has been taken away from them. Barcelona was never meant to be a giant value-for-money Benidorm, it's the capital of Catalonia, an economic centre, a very large industrial city with a lot of History and culture. You're talking about the cheap flights from London. Well you also get discount airfares to Barcelona from Berlin, Frankfurt, Milan, Paris, Basel, from just about anywhere in Europe and basically the locals end up feeling their capital has turned into the meeting place for foreign tourists looking for cheap booze, cheap drugs, cheap sex, what not and that they are now *depending* on those beer-pouring louts from all around Europe who most of the time actually show very little respect for the local History and culture. And they don't like the feeling. "My city is not a giant brothel!" Add to this the facts that everybody is skint in Spain and that Barcelona is -wrongly- seen as some kind of Eldorado and that the Catalonians seem more and more inclined to nationalism... there's bound to be some chew. You won't agree with the protesters and you will -rightly- say that they're just shooting themselves in the foot but at least you can try and understand where they're coming from.

Chip I think the problem is that the money tourists bring in doesn't end up in the pockets of locals in any great quantity. Like London, or anywhere touristy, the multinationals hoover it all up.

I visited Ljubljana last week and a lovely place it is. Great restaurants, cafes and bars next to the river, surrounded by historic buildings. The whole place had an unspoilt, youthful, laid back feel. Problem is flights from the U.K. are just starting up, with the first route from London. Already there are chirpy cockney stag do's coming over and there were a few people handing out fliers offering cheap booze. I give it two years and it'll be a mess.
I feel like writing to the Ljubljana Mail and telling them not to let it happen. Brits cannot be trusted.

I agree entirely with chip here.

We are fucked up nation aren't we?

Generally we are the worst tourists out there. We think all of these European resorts/cities owe us something.

And at the same time voted for Brexit like good little inglanders.

I was in the local shop last night and sum tanned middle aged chavvy woman was being served and telling the lass behind the counter that she had just got back from Salou.

Great place apparently but the food is so shut she ate nowt but salad for a fortnight and had lost about 1 stone.

God knows how fat she was before she got there.

She is typical though.

Then surely you take the protests out on the multinationals, not on individual tourists ?

Like with many things, protests are directed at the wrong targets.

Suffering from reduced public services? Blame the bankers and the Tory government? Nah, just point the finger at immigrants.

Those in control of things always manage to deflect attention away from themselves.

Or are people too stupid to point their anger in the right direction?

I am not having it that racists blame immigrants because governments deflect them somehow to do so.

They areally just racists.

Alcohol is the biggest issue, how many people on facebook who are on holiday take a picture of the drinks they are consuming at 7am at the airport, photos of the drinks at the all inclusive piss up, tales of being off me tits etc.

Same with holidays over here though, went on a caravan holiday, fuckin hate them but the kids wanted to go, chavs walking round with slabs of fosters, swearing and being louts, lasted 3 days of a 7 day stay and went home, never again.

Ah, Benidorm, its just like SW Durham but with sun and a beach. I was talking to some blokes who went recently and they loved it. Loads of English pubs serving John Smiths and Carling, with decent English food, and a great chippy. All the locals spoke English, and they bumped into a few other groups of blokes from in or around the Metropolis. When I asked if they experienced the local culture, the answer was yes as they had a Chinese one night!

Then people wonder why Johnny foreigner has a problem with the cultured British Tourist?

Have a look at Express/Sun/Mail/Star etc headlines over the last few years. It is pure propoganda which is lapped up by millions and influences their thinking.

I don't think people are innately racist, they are taught to be.

Nobody is influenced by newspapers these days. Most people dont even look at them.

Daily Mail readers read it because it gives them what they want. Racist sensationalist bullshit.

The Daily Mail know this so feed them it to keep up the readership.

That is all.

Anyone that buys the sun should be shot in the face.

Of course people are influenced by newspapers, the thick people who they target are. Look at this whole Brexit farce, that was backed by the Sun.

Elections, as a rule, have gone the way the right wing gutter press have wanted them to go, this is why the result of the latest one was quite encouraging after the outright lies and misleading propaganda The Sun printed in the days before it to smear Corbyn.

Or maybe people just werent influenced by the papers eh?

I am not saying they werent in the past, but papers are pointless now.

and how many young people do you see reading newspapers these days?

And who are the predominantly racist people?

The fat baldy forty and fifty year olds. And their wimmin.

And I am glancing around the carriage of the train now, and yes, the only ones reding newspapers are as described above.

and at the front of the queue will be the brexit voters that wanted their country back.

And more of us will be out of work and losing our homes, but hey, as long as we have our sovereignty all is well.

There are lots of very rich people in central London, and they will continue to lap up the stupidity of more rural .

But still they believe all is well as long as we rid ourselves of Johnny Foreigner.

And just when it all goes quiet, and common sense appears to be on the horizon, up pops farage to tell everyone he is watching, and will cause hell if brexit is too soft.

Maybe a nuclear war with North Korea isnt a bad idea afterall.

They reckon its the weather. Its not just people behaving like they're in Blackpool , but the fact they build places like Blackpool in Spain to cater for the British tourist. To my knowledge I've never heard of any Germans holidaying in Benidorm. Our so called working class , in general , really are the joke of the civilised world, swearing , dropping litter , being rude and heading straight for the nearest English bar for a pint of John Smiths, an English breakfast and or roast dinner, just like back home.

Millions of people lap up the lies on newspaper websites. And millions more believe those racist memes generated by EDL/ Britain First etc.

We have had a couple of holidays in Benidorm, book hotels that don't allow stag and hens avoid the square like the plague and tend to eat in local restaurants where you aren't getting ripped off. It's what you make it and generally the hotels have a good mix of nationalities

I am sure some lap up the lies, but millions?

I reckon if you added up the readership of all the papers together there wouldnt be millions, and that includes online.

And most people dont believe what they read, and only buy out of habit.

I genuinely dont know what a meme is.

That's got to be bollocking.

Who know's anyone who actually actively goes on the daily mail website.

Everyone might click on an article now and then.

That doesn't count. Unless you areally the daily mail and like to lie hugely.

I don't know anyone who goes on it but it's all about the click bait though. Articles turn up left right and centre on the social medias, generally designed to infuriate one way or another. It's massive! I've just checked and I need to clarify my claim - most read British website in world. Sits at no. 8 globally, just behind Fox News. Gets 57 million unique visits a month...
Weirdly though, my mam gets the Daily Mail paper (despite my protestations) although voted remain, doesn't have a big issue with immigrants and is an all round good egg. No idea why she gets it- seems to be more addictive than heroin.
