Top notch.

Hmm, started a fashion that endures to this day. Problem was and is, it wasn't about the musical merit, it was about an attitude. Pretty Vacant stands alone in being a great track. The rest is mere posturing.

I saw the comeback tour in Finsbury Park and you knew when they'd done the album in 45 mins that they'd never been up to much. I was waiting for them to take requests.

I bought it, like......who didn't?? rolfl rolfl

It was bloody odd listening to John Lydon trying to be Johhny Rotten again, his voice had changed a lot.

The Damned were a much better Punk band but the publicity surrounding Sid and Nancy etc gained the Pistols a higher status. I hate the way that people immediately think of the Pistols as soon as someone mentions 'punk'.

Dont get me wrong I like the bollox album (dont have any of the other ones tho)

The damned also progressed to reveal some musical talent like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIIJHybnGBA)

punk passed me by a little.I liked the attitude but always preferred a tune.
the pistols were gash for me like and lydon is a hypocrite of the worst order, cook and jones were decent pub rock gadgies but it's a joyless piece of work for me

Some classic stuff, and still sounds good to me but Lydon peaked with P.I.L a majestic outfit - metal box is still startling to listen to.

No one beats The Clash though - before, at the time or since. Range of music unbelievable. Never saw the Pistols but saw The Clash - will die happy, Straight To Hell probably!

Spent a happy holiday in Padstow with the sound man for The Motors and the bass player with the Yachts. That first Motors album (pre airport) is still an absolute belter, Dancin' The Night Away - real power pop for want of a better term. Still got my vinyl copy.

Buzzcocks still excite I find. Bit later but Gang of Four best band to come out of Leeds and influenced a generation (Franz F and the like). All their stuff still sounds awesome and their last album was a killer. Never off the i-pod.

Never understood Blur personally - Kinks the real thing and Suede best Brit Pop band (if there is such a thing) by a country mile for me .

The Flagship for the punk movement, not really my bag man, must be 20 years since i played my old casstte copy. But its importance in giving anybody with the knowledge of half a chord the chance to get up there and "give it some",is not lost on me.

Like any musical movement, there was some good that came out of Punk, but also some complete excrement.

1977 and all that?,i was listening to ELO. violin

It's good that you feel able to come out though so that the healing can begin!

a lot of the music from the post-punk era certainly hasnt stood the test of time. embarrassed to say i travelled the country to see the likes of the sex gang children, southern death cult, bauhaus etc. i think at one point i even went to wakefield hellfire club to see the virgin prunes.
.

I take issue on the Bauhaus thing, some of their stuff still stacks up.

Is that John Rodrigo y Jane Gabrielle from Glastonbury?. Only saw the coverage on telly but they were the best act for me. Crowd singing along to 'Wish You Were Here' very moving. Great to have relatives like that.

Suede peaked with Dog Man Star for me - a majestic album.

When I first heard Pretty Vacant I though this is good, it gets me red corpuscles moving.
But I never considered it anything other than energetic rock without licks. I certainly never got any "fook all this shite" messages from it.
And before anyone makes any "yes but that's because of your age" comments, John Lydon isn't significantly younger than I am, and the late Joe Strummer even less so.

agree with you all...but God Save The Queen is a great song in my book, and a great cover.
i got into the pistols aged thirteen, in 1983. My parents were shocked, in fact disgusted, so they must have still had something then.
By the time I was 15 The Clash and Stiff Little Fingers were my punk bands. Never saw the Clash (79 would have been nice) and Fingers still put on a great sold out gig every year in Newcastle but only started seeing them in 89.
