Here you go ladies and gents, now approved:

It will be interesting to see how it changes the dynamic of the league next season. I agree with 2nd and 3rd placed teams getting a one off home semi final tie, the rest of it I'll reserve judgement on particulary the prospect of a team finishing 7th getting promoted. Then again, since the introduction of the POs to the NL/Conference a team finishing 5th has never got promoted, how will a club finishing 7th fare in the POs?

I've never liked the inherent unfairness of play-offs but there's no denying they add a lot of interest and revenue to the closing stages of a season.

Right at the minute Pools look like they have a much better chance of finishing 6th or 7th than 2nd, so it's a thumbs up for now!

I'd be unhappy if we finished 2nd especially if we were beaten in the final by the 7th placed team! Can't see this format lasting but if it slightly increases our chances of a return I'm all for it.
Seems to favour the traditional late comer who hit form late on and carry it into the playoffs.

On another note I never understood why only 2 teams go up from the NL and 4 from L2 and 3 from the others.

Not sure it'll work in the north and south divisions. Weren't Darlo and a team from the south division denied entry to the play offs this year because of ground safety issues?I think the next eligible team went in instead. Teams could be in the play offs after scraping a top half finish!

Because the EFL continually vote against a third promotion/relegation slot. I believe it was raised the NL AGM yesterday, again.

It was not because of ground safety per se, rather both clubs did not have the minimum seating capacity required by the NL, which I think from memory is 500.

500 seats under cover in no more than two stands.

I bet Darlo are ruing the day they left Feethams on that Reynolds flight of fantasy. Darlo was the best away trip bar non, great pubs in the town centre a cocks stride from Feethams topped off going for a pint in the Cricket Club after the match.

Damn right! If the new stadium had been half the size it could have been a success but Reynolds wouldn't listen to anyone.

I hate the play offs.....just not right after 40 odd games final places should stand.

I still think the final should be the winner of the playoff matches from the lower division against the team from the higher division that finished in the top relegation space. One team fighting to go up vs one fighting not to go down.

In principle it's the fairest way to do the play offs but it takes interest away from the League that season. It stands to reason that more teams with a chance of making the play offs the more interesting the division is and the best way to do that is to have more places. It's not fair though.

I remember it well...Charlton v Leeds. Finished 2-1 to Charlton. John Sheridan scored a free kick for Leeds before the most unlikely of heroes, Peter Shirtliff, scored twice for Charlton

Didn't Boro once relegate Chelsea at Stamford Bridge?

I don't think it went down too well with the locals.

I think it's difficult to say the play offs are unfair any more because it was such a long time ago that they were introduced. I could understand clubs feeling badly done to for the first few years but I don't think anyone can say it's unfair now, it's just how it is, rightly or wrongly.

The club I feel really sorry for is Tranmere. If Pools got, what was it, 95 points? and didn't go up it would be devastating and God only knows how the squad would get over it....it'd take some time...

What about the dogs dinner that was the SPL when it split in half at a certain point through the season, what the fuck was that all about? They don't still do that do they? If I remember correctly you could have a team finishing 7th with more points than the team finishing 6th or whatever it was....there has to be a better way of making a league more interesting surely?

Just get rid of Celtic and it would be quite competitive :)

I think they still do that too, league splits in two and top six play each other and bottom six play each other, stupid way to do things as I'm sure the teams in the bottom 6 could do with the income from playing the two Glasgow teams at home once more a season.

Yes they do...just looked at the table. Ross County finished 7th on 46 points....Partick Thistle finished 6th on 42 points.

Don't like play offs, never have never will , though I appreciate lots do and they do generate interest. Don't like 4 teams in play offs never mind 6. Its okay saying it creates interest, but on the flip side of that, what about teams who with 3 or 4 games to go know they are guaranteed play off place, and just go through motions for remainder of season?. Is that generating interest? is there a chance of foul play? .

Don't want us to end up like Mexican football , where team finishing 20th, ends up in play offs and wins the title

Surely that's Pools' best chance ...

Lets hope it takes Tranmere at least one season to get over it.

In the (real) first division at least, I'm pretty sure there used to be only two-up/two-down automatic. The play-offs offered a further spot for grabs.
So the reasoning was "You four teams missed out on automatic but here's a second bite at the cherry. Over to you."
Obviously that's long way from 6 teams fighting it out for the only alternative promotion spot out of two.

As for there being only two teams promoted, I'm happy with that. Getting into the League has never been easy. But we've gone from one club like every five years to two clubs a year. Being a League team carries a certain status. It's the minimum we are happy to settle for. And right now we're on the wrong side of that line.

Make league progression seamless and you destroy that line. What's the minimum you'll settle for then?
