Big Pete, McGowan, off the other board, has sadly passed away. He took ill at the Billy West do , hosted by the friends group on Saturday evening. Was taken to hospital , where he was in a critical condition. Unfortunately he died yesterday.

I only knew him through football, the first time I met him , was after a game at York one Friday night in September 1981. He always said hello and stopped for a chat any time I met him after that.

A loyal Pools supporter and a thoroughly decent bloke , certainly someone you would of wanted at your side if you were in a spot of bother.


I am sure fellow Bunkerites/ Pools supporters will join me in paying respect to Pete.

Rip Peter. I know loads of people just through pools. It brings so many of us together.

Didn't really know him well but recognised him and only realised the other day I used to work with him at British Steel. Sad news, he was a true Poolie.

His real name was Peter Donnelly, but most knew him as Big Peter or McGowan.
