What a fucking superb place it is these days.

Just got back from three days there.

Stayed in the Albert Dock area.

Just shows what can be done with decent investment.

My new favourite City.

I lived there as a student and it was brilliant then, although the City centre was a bit scruffy. Great City and smashing, warm, friendly people.

Totally different to how it was. In the early 80s our summer holidays consisted of stopping at my uncle's house in the Halewood area of the city. I couldn't understand why everything in the shop at the end of his road was behind glass, and you had to tell the lass behind the counter what you wanted off the shelf. The city centre was awful, a proper showing of the 'managed decline'.

Now it is like a proper modern European city. Just shows what investment can do.

I've always thougbt Scousers were the mirror image of us, decent close-knit people who have been shat on repeatedly by those with money and power.

Yeah it is a great place I've been a couple of times in recent years.

To be fair a lot of our cities like Newcastle, Leeds and Manchester are now really good vibrant places which have seen a real resurgence.

Just done that train journey today. And radged it is.

And what a fucking awful service transpennine express is. A fucking cattle market.

Grand central makes it eat shit.

But I agree with the above. It's now my favourite city in the UK.

Just marvellous.

And I even went to the Beatles museum. And that was marvellous as well.

During the dark old days of me working as a screw I had the misfortune of working on a wing that held 120 of them having been transferred up from there following riots

They were horrific. And the noise. Like a badly tuned

Went their on a jolly boys outing 3 year ago, just 2 days on the lash basically, did the Liverpool FC tour ( it was fookin grim around their mind you , though even that was getting smartened up at the time ) and caught the ferry across to Birkenhead ( the place was empty literally , it was surreal and eerie ). Also did the Albert Dock and the museum. Some great pubs, Baltic Fleet, Peter Kavanaghs, Ship & Mitre, Lion Tavern, Thomas Rigby, Ye Olde Cracke.....and on and on...

Manchester used to be my fav city, but like Elvis C would probably say Liverpool now. Manchester has and is booming, the London of the North, unfortunately because of that , it is experiencing London problems, homelessness, high prices and of course the latest Terrorism.

The Scousers as people are a race apart, Liverpool is like not just a country within a country, but even within the North West region , truly unique place.

What I liked about it, was the main shopping centre and all the pubs are side by side, not detached or stuck in the middle of nowhere. You could leave your lass at the shops and visit a dozen cracking boozers, yet be only 5 mins away from each other, I like that. It is not however all spit and sawdust type places, plenty of up market joints for the more discerning among us, again centrally located. A good mix of the old and new , hope like Manchester they don't overdo it though and spoil it. In fact one of the few bright spots in this country over the last 20 years is the regeneration of our cities, though it has been to the detriment of the satellite towns adjacent to these places, eg Sunderland, Halifax, Rotherham etc. Sheffield is a place I would recommend.

As Chip says though, the rail links are poor, especially from the North East, were you have to use that horrible, overcrowded, expensive 4 carriage Trans Pennine service. Of course if the service is improved it may cause the Manchester style problems I alluded to earlier.

Fantastic city. I'm off there for my stag do and 40th. You should check out Lark Lane next time you go. Its a taxi ride away but it's great. Loads of cracking pubs and restaurants

Was there in March and we did something I've never done before, got an open top bus tour. Comedy classic. Got up to the central library and the courier was on about a statue to Stephen Gerard, then came a shout from the driver up the stairs just like Harry Enfield's scousers..." Hey, hey, hey ....there's two teams in Liverpool!"...when we came to China town the courier said the arch was the biggest and first in the country, this little bloke chirped in a said the one in Manchester was bigger and before it. The courier said it's the biggest one in the country and whispered..... " after the one in Manchester". Great place to visit.

We did the bus tour thing. It was really good, but the scousers really do love their own town, far more than most do.

thats true. funny how most of the cities in this country have been improved out of all recognition but the larger towns have gone in the opposite direction. most are dying on their feet with town centres full of closed down shops. anything to do with tourism i wonder or am i really a cynic.

Because they want every city, to be a microcosm of London. Satellite towns like Accrington and Hartlepool become places with no services, no courts, no hospital, no jobcentre, no council offices, no nothing, just giant housing estates with everyone commuting into Newcastle or Manchester to work. This makes the cities richer and the towns poorer. It is happening all over the world, with places untold wealth in places like London, New York, Delhi, Beijing, Dubai, yet a stones throw away people are working 15 hours a day , living in hovels , with barely enough money to eat.
