Depends on what you want, but I looked into this, as I was waiting for my new car.

The best i could get for 3 months was from Europcar, at Tones Renault garage Brenda road, opposite halfords.

In the end I didnt need the three months, but hired an astra for 4 days and then 3 days. Got the 3 day one for £125.00 all in.

I made a booking for Europcar with the pick up from Tones, I got a phone call a few days later informing me Europcar were no longer operationing out of Tones, nearest place Middlesbrough.

Phone them and haggle with the online price. Europcar is def cheaper than enterprise and whatever you do. Do not buy that excess reducing insurance. Charge you about £5 to £10 a day. Really not worth it. You can buy a policy online for a year for about £35. I have this policy and was so much cheaper.

Depends what you're using it for. If you don't have to look shiny it might be worth buying a cheap run around and then selling it once your three months are up.

Green cars statistically have less accidents.

Definitely after the extra money. I've got one of these for hire cars and had to use mine on one occasion. Paid the excess up front to the hire company & claimed it back without any hassle from the insurer I held my policy with.

It's been a long time since I hired a car but remember them asking for a big wedge of cash to reduce the 1,000 pounds excess.......if you still need to do this, rather than pay them and rather than run the risk of shelling out a grand, you can take out an excess protection policy.

They are cheap as chips and don't just apply to the hire car, they can be used on your main vehicle. With that in mind, if your current insurer would shave a chunk off your annual premium for a higher excess then take out excess protection for that too as it may work out cheaper to have a higher excess with a separate excess protection policy.
